Global Warming/Climate Change is probably the clearest example I have ever seen of people not believing something simply because they choose not to believe it. Wikipedia says "not disputed by any scientific body of national or international standing". Care to dispute that?

They went to one truck stop, the new Pilot at the Goshen Road exit and interviewed two drivers. What a waste of 1:33 of air time.

They even got the idling for WV wrong:

Truckers are usually only allowed to idle for 15 minutes in a one hour period. If drivers idle longer they can face fines of up to $300 in West Virginia.

Look at the exemptions, you can idle longer then 15 minutes in any one hour period if you are in the sleeper.

The PLANET is getting warmer... FASTER than can be explained by "cyclical change" scientists!

Minnesota ... and MOST "Great Lake" states... are experiencing high temps AND Heat INDECES that they are not used to! Michigan "proper" ... AND the YOOPERS... are seeing the same thing. They just don't "understand it."

Hobo, if you're just poking a little fun at Yoopers then hold on a sec, does today end in a y? Ok it's the right day for that. If you're razzing a particular driver from Michigan, then does today end in a y? It's the right day for that too.

I can't be the first one to express fatigue about the 'round and 'round nature that our little debates have. If you argue global warming by talking up how hot it is then you're inviting knuckleheads to return the favor next winter and nothing at all gets settled. In fact nothing gets settled anyway because GMan will spout the party line and Ford will engage in obfuscation to cloud the issue.

I asked if anyone would like to dispute the claim made on Wikipedia that no major scientific group disputes climate change and noone has stepped up so I guess we're all in agreement for once. :moon:

I had my own little encounter with global warming this weekend! Came home Sat night and found my A/C had crapped out! Felt like 100+ in here! Landlord got me fixed up today tho. It feels like an igloo in here tonight.

Asking (or forcing) a trucker to try to get his rest in a metal box with no A/C for 10 hours is just totally inhumane! They bi*ch about safety "regulations" and then they expect us to be able to drive after 10 hours in a sauna??

Orangetxguy 07-27-2011 04:59 PM

Down here where it has been sortuv WARM the last few weeks..... Don is coming to town on Saturday, bringing with him rain....and a little more wind than is usual for these parts.

:p I done told the locals to just give me some time. In 2005 I moved to Orange TX....and spent about 3 days a week either in New Orleans ....or traveling through new Orleans, picking up stuff at plants along I-10 for my employer at that time. New Orleans got Katrina.....Orange got Rita. Corpus Christi........looks like they are getting a little "blowhard" named Don.

It might not bust up this drought they are having.......but it is sure as heck gonna provide some FRAC water for the Oil Companies.......Who need it. :p

New NASA Data Blow Gaping Hold In Global Warming Alarmism - Yahoo! News

MichiganDriver 07-28-2011 03:17 AM

Well at least you tried, gotta give you points for making the effort.

But your first tipoff should have been that it's a Forbes article, hardly impartial.
Your second tipoff should have been the use of the word "alarmist" appearing once in the title and 13 times in the article.
Your third tipoff should have been the blurb at the bottom "James Taylor is senior fellow for environment policy at The Heartland Institute...".

Points for an honest effort though.

Mr. Ford95 07-28-2011 11:30 AM

I'd rather believe some of the smartest people on this planet in NASA than some scientist who works in a lab and has no idea which way is up or down. Those same scientists have claimed in the past that Freon is hurting our atmosphere. Freon is heavier than air dingo's therefore it doesn't go up into our atmosphere. We can trace how the planet has changed back to a point before the dinosaurs roamed freely that shows everything works in cycles and we aren't doing anything to affect it either way yet we all need to go out and buy Carbon Credits...........why does Al Gore hate humans, is it because he's really a robot? He claims we all need to do our part because we are all at fault for Global Warming, guess he excluded himself from being at fault. He still drives non-green vehicles, he lives in a very non-green house. He lives his life as if it's not real..............and some people still believe him?

CleeIB 07-29-2011 05:04 AM

Guys, keep the political crap, left or right, out of this, or else I'll lock things down.

Orangetxguy 07-29-2011 07:26 AM

We sure could use the rain instead.

Sorry Cleeb, it's hard to not do that when one of the main pushers of Global Warming is a former VP. It has nothing to do with right or left though, both sides have people who are behind Al Gore and people who are against him and his views.

Should we simply move this Global Warming talk to a separate thread?

Malaki86 07-31-2011 04:51 AM

At least it's a dry heat. Beats the hell out of 102 & 68% humidity like they had around Charlotte, NC yesterday.

golfhobo 07-31-2011 05:07 AM

Two truckers having a debate on CAD:

Sure is hot.

Yup.

Think it'll rain?

Nope.

Wonder why it's so hot?

Couldn't tell ya.

(long pause......)

Wanna talk about tomorrow's weather?

Naw.

How come?

Too controversial.

Mr. Ford95 07-31-2011 05:41 AM

Don't I know it Mal, we finally got a little reprise here today from the humidity. I was just out doing some grass while it wasn't so hot and humid. Back to the grind of hot and humid tomorrow though, wish we could get some rain. South of I-64 and North of I-66 are getting rain but we have seen about an inch in the last 35 days.

golfhobo 07-31-2011 05:44 AM

Check your PM box Mr. Ford. (And don't look so shocked.)

Ohhhh Contrare Monfrare. It's not a dry heat like AZ, but it definatley hasn't been like what Mr.Ford has been experiencing. It's usually humid as all get out here but it has been unusually low this year, thank goodness. Besides, when it gets this hot, it's hot, dry or no dry, to me anyway. I sweat like there's no tomorrow in either. With the company I use to drive for I went to Phoenix and Calexico,Ca a lot, and then I would pack up and go to the Charlotte area and then I would go to the Dallas area and I was just as miserable in all of the places, humidity or not.

I started wondering about the trucks digital temperature gauge......so I bought a meat thermometer and have it strapped to the mirror bracket. It is within 1 degree of the digital gauge....and hovers around 113 most days.

:p

For you Texas folks, good luck. Looks like we might be back down in the '90's next week WITH some rain here in OK.

Heat waves pushes Texas power grid into red zone | Reuters

Mr. Ford95 08-04-2011 09:57 PM

And Emily has spunout. I was hopin for a little bit of rain from her, maybe next time. We've seen the outrageous temps go down but the friggin humidity has been staying up there so it's hard to tell that the air temp is down. Just like last year around the same time it's back to our normal summer it looks like.

That's weird. The picture of our local weather board in my older post and OTG's post looks like it is changing everday, updating itself. I would have thought it would have stayed on the original day's that I had posted it because it is just a pic. Shows you what I know about computers. I guess ya'll are going to get to keep up on our weather.

That is pretty strange... I guess it could be the type of file your computer saved it as when you transfered it. That or the 4 Warn storm team has an intrest in the thoughts and ramblings of truck drivers. Sure hope the forecast is correct and we cool off 15 degrees with rain chances.

I saw the storms up your way tonight. I was thinking about you the other night too. Kremlin was in the OKC news about something, I don't recall at the moment.

I know what it was Graintrain, the boy's that caught in the Auger in the grain elevator. Have you heard anything about them? How they are?

Jackrabbit379 08-08-2011 08:05 AM

We set a new record for the month of July, and we were the hottest month in the county, I think. The average temp in July in Wichita Falls was 92.9. Might as well say, 93. That's not the average high, that's high/low combined.
I've been searching for the heat records, but I can't find it. I was going to show how many days we've had triple digits this year. I do know that we're getting close to 60 days straight of 100 + degrees. There was one day in June that it only got up to 99, for some reason. If it were'nt for that, we'd be near 100 days straight of triple digits.
We've had a little over 3 inches of rain all year. We had 2 inches the first of May, and hadn't had a drop since.

I love the summer, and I hate the winter, but I'd wish the weather would break. I'm sure we'll have another month of this. We almost did a rain dance last week. There was a hurricane (Don?) that hit near Padre, and as soon as it hit land, it fizzled out. They said the hot dry air forced it to dissipate. Maybe we can get some rain, at some point. Next several months?

Those storms keep staying in Enid or going over us and then raining. It did rain 3/10's in Wakita early morning one morning last week. All that did was make it miserable outside in the afternoon. I cheated and stayed in the a/c and just watched my load gauges in the cab. :p

The last thing I heard about the 2 young men in Kremlin was that both were still in critical condition. That was Saturday A.M.. There wasn't any talk about that on the cb today. I have been hauling transfers out of Wakita for a few days, and saw the Medi-Vac copter as I was heading down to Enid on 81. I guess I just didn't think too much about it till Friday morning when all the guys on the cb were talking about it. When I was farming, I bought some seedwheat from Zaloudek Grain on several occassions. In hindsight, those boys shouldn't have been in those bins in such hot weather. If it's 107 outside, it is well over 140 in those graineries. No one, especially 17 year olds, can work safely for very long in those conditions. There shouldn't be such a hurry to empty the bins this summer, since there is no corn, bean or milo crop to get ready for. They were on our prayer list at church Sunday. I guess word is that one will lose one leg and the other lost both.

PS: As I finished typing this it started thundering outside, its raining 3 miles north of here. But guess what, its moving east.

PSS: At 6:30 It rained here at the house for the first time in a long time. The strong winds blew all the dead leaves from the trees, we got a quarter inch of rain.

Malaki86 08-10-2011 02:33 PM

I just shut down in London, ON for the night. Oh my God - I forgot what 'normal' weather is. A few wispy clouds in the sky, no humidity and the temp is 65. I can actually shut the truck off for the night and not wake up 1/2hr later drenched in sweat.

I can only dream about those coming days. I work nights so it hasn't been TOO bad. It's cooler but the humidity is still there. We had a couple of nasty storms last night and it REALLY cooled it off. It's just teasing us right now but it won't be long we'll be experiencing what you are now.

Malaki86 08-10-2011 02:48 PM

I just came from the Atlanta area. It was hot and humid there. I figured it would be a bit cooler here, but wow - I never want to leave. Well, I do because it's Canada, but you know what I mean. Bad part is that when I leave here, they'll probably give me a load going straight to Laredo, so I'll go right back into the furnace.

Temps dropping this eve. I might actually have to dig out a blanket.

Jackrabbit379 08-11-2011 07:25 AM

I tell ya what... I don't know what happened, but it's only 86 degrees outside. Normally, (for the last several months) it's been 86 at 2:00 in the morning. :hellno: Me and my dad was running some errands earlier, and I didn't notice it at first when he came by the house, and we got into the pickup. I noticed how well my a/c was cooling. There are some storms east of us (been raining everywhere but here), and it's kinda cloudy, with an east wind blowing. Sure feels good for a change. I like the summer, but that 110 degrees can sure put a load on ya. Wow, what a difference 25 degrees makes. Maybe the weather is finally breaking? No....probably not.
