Rick Perry gave a pretty good speach, but I think the threat should have been a little bit stronger, like Texas being on its own again.. The report, titled "Right-wing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment," dated April 7, states that "threats from white supremacist and violent anti-government groups during 2009 have been largely rhetorical and have not indicated plans to carry out violent acts." However, the document, first reported by talk-radio host and WND columnist Roger Hedgecock, goes on to suggest worsening economic woes, potential new legislative restrictions on firearms and "the return of military veterans facing significant challenges reintegrating into their communities could lead to the potential emergence of terrorist groups or lone wolf extremists capable of carrying out violent attacks." The report from DHS' Office of Intelligence and Analysis defines right-wing extremism in the U.S. as "divided into those groups, movements and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups) and those that are mainly anti-government, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration." "The consequences of a prolonged economic downturn – including real estate foreclosures, unemployment and an inability to obtain credit – could create a fertile recruiting environment for right-wing extremists and even result in confrontations between such groups and government authorities similar to those in the past," the report says. It adds that "growth in these groups subsided in reaction to increased government scrutiny as a result of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing and disrupted plots, improvements in the economy and the continued U.S. standing as the pre-eminent world power." "Proposed imposition of firearms restrictions and weapons bans likely would attract new members into the ranks of right-wing extremist groups as well as potentially spur some of them to begin planning and training for violence against the government," the report continues. "The high volume of purchases and stockpiling of weapons and ammunition by right-wing extremists in anticipation of restrictions and bans in some parts of the country continue to be a primary concern to law enforcement." Most notable is the report's focus on the impact of returning war veterans. "Returning veterans possess combat skills and experience that are attractive to right-wing extremists," it says. "DHS/I&A is concerned that right-wing extremists will attempt to recruit and radicalize veterans in order to boost their violent capacities."

The report cites the April 4 shooting deaths of three police officers in Pittsburgh as an example of what may be coming, claiming the alleged gunman holds a racist ideology and believes in anti-government conspiracy theories about gun confiscations, citizen detention camps and "a Jewish-controlled 'one-world government.'"

Last month, the chief of the Missouri highway patrol blasted a report issued by the Missouri Information Analysis Center that linked conservative groups to domestic terrorism, assuring that such reports no longer will be issued. The report had been compiled with the assistance of DHS.
The report warned law enforcement agencies to watch for suspicious individuals who may have bumper stickers for third-party political candidates such as Ron Paul, Bob Barr and Chuck Baldwin. It further warned law enforcement to watch out for individuals with "radical" ideologies based on Christian views, such as opposing illegal immigration, abortion and federal taxes. "For that reason, I have ordered the MIAC to permanently cease distribution of the militia report," he said. "Further, I am creating a new process for oversight of reports drafted by the MIAC that will require leaders of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Department of Public Safety to review the content of these reports before they are shared with law enforcement. My office will also undertake a review of the origin of the report by MIAC." What I've read sounds more like propaganda to incite a civil war than a way to insure the safety and integrety of our country. There are already enough people that go off half cocked for less reason than that. They're going to have a whole lot of people that have known each other for many years, looking at each other with suspicious eyes. And, having extremist groups recruit veterans is nothing new. They were doing that 40 years ago. One of them, up in Idaho, was lead by the one man with the most medals ever to come out of the Viet Nam War. But, they have their mountain top, and don't bother anyone. You don't even hear about them. (Actually, I think the Feds are afraid to do anything about them because of the information that might be made public if they did.) How will you pay? Your credit won't be any good. Where are you going to get the cash?
Why not just quit the Union altogether and leave? Anywhere you go you'll find--gulp!--taxes and government. Right now, there's just one place where you run to and forget about taxes and government. It's called Somalia, which may well be Swahili for "This place really sucks." (Hell, if you set up your own state you'll need organizations that benefit your people and you'll have to pay for them. You'll still be looking at taxes and government.) Personally, I'm glad I'm able to pay taxes and I don't think government's "too big," and I don't mind helping those less fortunate than I am. No, it's not perfect, but secession won't fix that. Want highways? Government. Want to fight wars half-way around the world? Government. Want health and medical research? Sanitary sewer systems? Or catch the next freighter to Somalia. I feel that I need to explain a few facts about Texas, AC120. Texas is one of the few states that could pretty much be self sufficient. Texas grows much of the food for themselves and the nation. They do that in the valley down near the border. They also raise a lot of beef in Texas. I don't think you need to worry about them going hungry. However, you may want to be concerned about where you are going to get some of your food in parts of the rest of the country. Texas doesn't need to worry about taking a lot of money from he federal government. You see, they have a very large oil industry in Texas. Exxon, Mobil and a few other of the largest oil corporations in the world are headquartered in Texas. In fact, they have a rather large export business in Texas. They are also the home to two of the largest computer companies in the world, Dell, HP/Compaq. They also have some of the finest medical facilities in the world. MD Anderson and Baylor are world renown. And since you mentioned the military, Texas is a major developer and producer of military hardware in the world. Bell Helicopter is a major defense contractor in Texas. They developed the Osprey, which is a vertical takeoff aircraft that is being utilized in our military. They also have a number of helicopters used in the military and private sectors that are built in the Lone Star state. I don't think you need to worry about whether Texas can pay the bills. I think the U.S. would miss Texas more than Texas would miss the U.S. I don't think that Texas would secede from the union, but if they did decide to do that then they could get along pretty well by themselves. And you need to understand how infrastructures are funded. The states and feds collect money from fuel taxes and other taxes and send them to Washington DC. For every 3 dollars Washington takes from the people they send back about 1 dollar to take care of infrastructure. They keep a small handling fee for themselves. The distribution of highway funds benefits the smaller states and those that have smaller populations such as Wyoming or the Dakota's. We need government. We don't need the amount of government we have. It is way too big. I would hate to see Texas or any other states secede from the union. It may take that to wake up those is Washington. It would be much better to stop this insane spending and start cutting the size of this out of control government. |

But people are becoming scared of the government. They feel frustrated, powerless and scared. People feel that our elected representatives are not representing their interests but are pushing for an agenda that is contrary to the U.S. Constitution and our way of life. People will only be pushed so far before they react. Hopefully, they will use the power of the vote and civil protests rather than armed conflict. I have strong family ties to Texas, Jackrabbit. Texans have always had a certain attitude about them. Some people take that as arrogance. Personally, I think it is more an attitude of confidence and a "can do" attitude. They will do whatever it takes to get the job done. Texans are proud of their heritage and their state. After all, Texas is "a whole other country." ;) |
