why the change....?????

i liked the "old school" feel of the old CAD...........how 'bout you guys.and gals...........

TK THE TRUCKER 10-02-2008 01:02 PM

Yup, I was perfectly happy with the way the board was. Now we can't even have a decent size avatar. Oh well, maybe it will change.

Rev.Vassago 10-02-2008 02:41 PM

Yeah, so much for all my awesome avatars. When the picture is so friggin small that you can't even barely see it, then it kinda defeats the purpose. No offense to the powers that may be, but vbulletin isn't all that great. I understand the reason for the change, but I wish it were possible for them to at least make it look more like the old version.

And where the hell are the quick links to the smilies?

I ain't too thrilled with the new format, but looking on the bright side, I still have the avatar you created for me Rev........saved it to my pc for just such an occasion..........LOL

What was the reason?

Twilight Flyer 10-03-2008 06:14 AM

To get smilies, go into your USER CP (Control Panel) and down to EDIT OPTIONS. At the very bottom, there is a Message Editor Interface option. Change it to Standard and you get the smilies. You can even kick it up another notch to enhanced, if you want.

;)
:D
:o
:)

The only issue with it is they are considered images and there is a 4-image limit per post.

The old phpBB software couldn't handle how big the board had gotten. There was lots of downtime due to it.

There was also some mention of the fact that the owners of CAD also own vBulletin.;)

Since CAD has become the best and most informative trucking forum on the internet for noobs, experienced, and old dogs like me.... Change is always good.... If want to see examples of over moderated, wishy-washy, nazi-ish, an politically motivated type trucking forums.... Just search for knitting club, twucknit, and truckers forum.....:D

Ok...did what you suggested TF, and got the smilies back. But you still needs to hammer out the avatar issue!! AND the issue of the software counting qouted" smilies" in a post!!!

Slimland 10-05-2008 06:34 AM

Wow this is diffrent, gonna take some getting used too.
But why the change, what was wrong with the other, I think that is one thing that made CAD so diffrent.. But every thing has gotta change.. Just keep on Rollin with the Flow..

You should know. Hell - you've been banned from the most of them at one point or another.;)

The avatar issue is being worked on, from what I heard. I agree that the software needs to stop counting characters and smilies. Although it does put a limit on the amount of smilies that golfhobo can put in a single post.:D

It would also be nice if the amount of smilies increased. I know the software is capable of it, and I'd love to see the original phpBB smilies come back. Especially the  smiley. The little blue guy just doesn't cut it.

The old software was outdated. CAD was running on phpBB2, which the makers no longer support. I believe they were left with a choice of upgrading to phpBB3, or going with vBulletin. Since the owners of the site own vBulletin, it was a no-brainer.

RebelDarlin 10-05-2008 07:44 AM

There are additional smilies available (http://www.vbulletinsmileys.com/) however there seem to be a few issues that are more important, like some sort of security measures etc., etc., etc.. When the time comes I'm sure they will update the Smilies.
Until then, there are smilies available here: http://smileycons.com/home.html

HEY! I've only been banned from 33.33% of them. (unless you count the Mass CAD Banning of 2008, in which case I've been banned from 50% of them)

mommee 10-05-2008 09:00 AM

are you two having a contest to see who gets banned from the most places?:rolleyes:

Yes.

(adding in the required characters to actually post this.

I have a hammer that haven't used in a while, well, not since I somehow got hit by it myself. Anyway, I could break it out for you guys if that would help?

I'm thinking an arm wrestling competition, like in the movie "Over the Top".

That's right, Rev... and I am in contact with the Federal Marshall about it already. Limiting my smilies is like limiting my freedom of speech! :D

How can a quoted smilie count against a limit on images, yet a couple of paragraphs quoted don't count as required characters? But, at least that keeps you from answering with a simple yes or no....(although "not exactly" still works!)

Man.... I couldn't even SEE that! I had to cancel my call to the Marshall!

Twilight Flyer 10-07-2008 02:32 AM

OK, if you are having avatar issues where it's not showing up, shoot me a PM. I have it figured it, it looks like.

Mommee is back. :)

Will work on others that I already know are having issues.

Twilight Flyer 10-07-2008 02:38 AM

Rev is back. :)

Twilight Flyer 10-07-2008 02:50 AM

Regarding avatars, here's what I know so far.

1. I have no idea about the size restrictions. I do have an e-mail out to the powers-that-be to see if they can increase the size of it and put it back to the left hand side.

2. I've approved several more avatars from people on this thread: Devildice, Orangetxguy, a couple of others. It appears that when you are putting in a custom avatar, it has to be approved. I'm guessing at that right now, but for those that now have them, I had to go into your profile and manually override the custom avatar switch to a YES. I'll ask about that being automatic for posters that have X amount of posts. I think it's just there to keep naughty avatars from showing up all over the board and before anyone gets any ideas, remembers the rules are the same. ;)

3. There are a couple of others here that I see...Golfhobo and Slim....that have pics chosen for their driver profile, but not their avatar. The driver profile and the avatar are different...don't ask me why. If you want those profile pics as your avatar, you'll have to go in and add it from your own USER CP. I have already manually approved both of you, so it should pop right up as soon as you make the change.

Anyone else with avatar issues regarding the above, just let me know and I'll get you set up...I hope.

It's good to have my mod god powers back. Ya'll better be careful now. ;)

Awww.....shucks.:(

Twilight Flyer 10-07-2008 03:01 AM

Racey is one thing. We've got a few people that do that...no biggee.

Downright naughty is another story.

golfhobo 10-07-2008 03:04 AM

Twilight,

I appreciate your effort, but unless you did it in the last few minutes, mine still won't work. When I click on edit avatar, it won't let me "uncheck" the "NO avatar" button.

I actually want to use a different pic, but I would settle for anything right now just to see it work.

Just checked it again. Same problem.

Twilight Flyer 10-07-2008 03:15 AM

I uploaded one for you. :)

Now try changing it.

golfhobo 10-07-2008 03:21 AM

Why would I want to change it? I haven't looked that good in years! Okay.... if you insist. Now..... is it just ME, or did you reverse the order of the posts in this and every other thread?

Twilight Flyer 10-07-2008 03:22 AM

Go into your USER CP and change your threads to LINEAR: OLDEST FIRST...or something like that.

No can do. Like everyone else (I think) I am missing the "bottom" part that allows you to edit and/or upload a picture. The avatar you gave me shows up, and the "no avatar" button is unchecked, but I don't seem to have any option other than to "reset the fields."

I'm afraid to click on that cuz I might lose what I have. And hey.... I LIKE the new me! (for now.)
