Favorite music

Just curious is to what is y'all favorite music?

70's, 80's, and 90's R&B. I also love listening to southern soul blues which new combination of soul and blues. I'm not sure how long it's been around but it's some pretty great music!

Uturn2001 09-05-2008 08:40 AM

IMHO, with few exceptions, the only difference between rap and crap is the letter "C".

My music tastes depend on my mood. I enjoy 60-80's rock, 70-current country and classical.

Double R 09-05-2008 09:14 PM

(Hair)METAL, Rock,and classic country(70's-90's).

Syncrosonix 09-05-2008 10:07 PM

heavy, death, and black metal. electronic dance music ranging anywhere from 120 - 180bpm (beats per minute). 70's funk is also quite good to jam along the highways to. 80's synth-pop is another one of my favorites. smooth and uptempto jazz are others, too. when it comes to rap, i am only into the stuff that came out between 1982 and 1994.

Double L 09-05-2008 10:12 PM

I use to listen to rap all the time but it seems like all this new rap that is out recently is all about money and it doesn't require talent anymore!

that's because it doesn't. all you gotta have is some type of scar that can either pass off as a stab wound or gun shot, and claim to be a gangster. i listen to the old skool stuff because it was actually about stuff that mattered rather than cars, money, hoes, and jewelry, and "crank dat".

I agree big time! The best rap album still is Dr Dre's Chronic! But yeah man I can't stand that Soulja Boy, all the white kids like him and he says his music is friendly but schools won't play it cause they feel it's offensive.

Syncrosonix 09-05-2008 10:51 PM

that's because the song is offensive. its lyrics are nothing but slang terms for vile stuff i wouldn't dare to any woman. especially a certain lady who shall remain nameless.

superman dat hoe

carlos64030 09-05-2008 10:52 PM

I listen to mainly Trance and modern day Smooth Jazz. I enjoy listening to the 80's music too on ocassion.

I didn't know that and yet all the white kids when they hear get up and start singing and dancing to it! Seriously rap is being aimed towards white people and that is who is listening and buying a majority of the albums and stuff! It's pitiful and that is why I don't like it anymore.

Syncrosonix 09-05-2008 10:56 PM

trance is good stuff. i used to dj at warehouse parties in the bay area and throughout central cali. i spun mostly hard and progressive trance. then i also dabbled with uk hard nrg and uk hard house. later on, i progressed into hard drum n bass. nothing like seeing a huge crowd of 800+ heads bouncing all over the place to that stuff.

they buy into it because they're stupid and cannot think for themselves. they want to be trendy and popular with the cool kids at school, or wherever.

i think the best rap groups, duos, whatever out right now are: jedi mind tricks (old skool flavor to them and not full of tripe), atmosphere (from minneapolis), and the flobots (hailing from denver, co). flobots are quirky as hell and they've grown on me. jmt's older stuff is much better. the more recent stuff is a bit much for me. atmosphere's stuff is a bit liek the flobots.

Mack2 09-05-2008 11:12 PM

Southern Rock and Country.

JeffTheTerrible 09-06-2008 01:32 AM

Heavy Metal (True Metal, not this watered-down Glam/NĂ¼/Gothic piss), UK and NY/NK Hardcore circa 1978 - 1985 (before it went to the dogs), a bit of acoustic folk, some Prog Rock (Orne, Black Widow, Coven, Van Der Graaf Generator), and there's the occasional odd band out.. I like Portishead, for example, even though I really don't give a damn for this whole 'Trip-Hop' thing as a whole.

HWD 09-06-2008 01:47 AM

For me, the best decade of music was the 70's...from Earth, Wind and Fire to the Doobies to Kool and the Gang to Steeley Dan...I like it all. Some 80's stuff, too. Second favorite is early 90's grunge. Actually it's tied for first.

Tried The Cure, too depressing.

Never even tried to like redneck noise, uh, I mean country.

Hmm.... 8) that song IS vile...I caught my daughter singing it the other day and told her that she couldn't sing it because it was bad and I wasn't going to tell her what it meant. She does NOT need to know...neither of them do.

I like some of these female guitarists. I edited this a bit, because after trying to watch, I found a couple links were lousy.

wildkat 09-06-2008 09:20 PM

Classic Rock for me...country, or more correctly Hillbilly Rock I would guess it's called. I stopped listening to music when disco came....the new stuff is just noise...an insult to my ears!

Roadhog 09-07-2008 01:01 AM

The way Classic was meant to be played. :)

Any hard rock "brain damage" type music.

I absolutely refuse to listen to country music.

I was first gonna say...how lucky she was to get to play with Jeff Beck. But really...how lucky Jeff got to play with Tal. She sure has that Jazzy style...and she is amazing.
Never heard of her before. I looked her up on Wikipedia;

"She has impressed critics and fans alike with musical achievements usually reserved for players with relatively long established careers. Tal became a professional bassist after only three years on the instrument."

My impressions of a bass player are generally much more reserved, and don't get me started on drummers.

Q: What happened when the bassist locked his keys in his car?
A: HE SPENT AN HOUR TRYING TO GET THE DRUMMER OUT

What do you do if your bassist is drowning?
Throw him his amp.
(this attitude comes from constant amp wars with the lead guitarist)

Q: What do you do if you run over a bass player?
A: Back up

A mindreader is at a nightclub one night and decides to give a small demonstration of her abilities.
First, she reads the mind of the lead guitarist: "Wow, look at all the cute chicks who showed up tonight! Good crowd!"
Then the drummer: "Lots of people showed up tonight...Great! we're going to make good money tonight"
Then the Keyboard player: "All three of these guys have no appreciation of my talent...What a bunch of losers"

Finally, the Bass player: "C...G...C...G..."

How do you make a bass player turn down the volume?
Put sheet music in front of him.

rigidsporty 09-07-2008 01:39 PM

Tal is real good.

I listen to classic rock of course, classic country, folk (Dylan, Prine, ect.), modern folk (Todd Snider). Also Leon Russell, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Robert Earl Keen, Jerry Jeff Walker, Jim Croce, the ever-adorable Nancy Griffith, John Hiatt, and of course "Willie, Waylon, and the boys." Bruce Springsteen's non-radio stuff (like "Atlantic City" and the "Devils and Dust" album.) Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson... this list could go on forever.

I was amazed at the Crossroads fest last year. I'm a huge Beck fan, but the whole goup I was with was mesmerized by Tal. Check out her MySPace page, has some MP3's from her CD. http://www.myspace.com/talwilkenfeld

Thanks for the link to Escala, they are amazing. Love to see classical done with a modern twist.

The band which inspired countless knockoffs (like Amberian Dawn), all of which claim to be "something new, at last".
