Say if you won a free truck of your choice................

what make and model would it be???

Syncrosonix 09-03-2008 07:29 AM

volvo 880.

flood 09-03-2008 07:49 AM

volvo 780, d16, i-shift

JeffTheTerrible 09-03-2008 08:59 AM

Depends on what I was going to with it. If I was going to run interstate, then I'd be satisfied with a Freightliner Argosy with the 110" sleeper - midroof, of course. I don't need a big motor. 13 O/D and perhaps something around the 450 - 460 range with a set of 3.73s would be sufficient.
Now if I was doing something local, such as end dump, local delivery of whatever, etc., I'd want something with around a 250 - 260 inch wheelbase, because of the way our bridge law works here... it's complicated beyond belief, and it really makes no sense.. if I were running an interstate load through this state with a cabover, I'd still be allowed to gross 80k, but, if I were running local with a state exemption number and a one-state fuel tax sticker, I wouldn't be able to gross the full 80k with such a short tractor.
So, if I were going to get a daycab, I'd probably say Western Star 4964 or International 9900. Being 6'2, legroom is a concern.

Malaki86 09-03-2008 11:09 AM

I'll go with the Volvo 880 too, with a big engine and a lot of auto-shift gears to go with it.

Double R 09-03-2008 12:01 PM

HAHAHA - Very nice

I saw a Brinks truck broke down in Kentucky a few days ago. Talk about a lot of flashing lights for that one.

There was a 2nd Brinks truck backed against the 1st. There was a tow truck, a shop truck and 4 of KY's finest. They even blocked off the right lane for it. All of this was on the shoulder.

Ya - whatever was in that truck would've done me nicely for awhile. Heck, even if it was only to buy a nice new truck and keep working for a living.

Double L 09-03-2008 03:14 PM

Peterbilt 389 with a 13 speed.

BanditsCousin 09-03-2008 04:11 PM

New KW T660 w/ 550 Cummins, 244" WB, 13spd, 355's, tall rubber, and a 96" ICT or ARI rear door sleeper.

bluebeetle 09-03-2008 04:17 PM

Isn't that the reason to be a company driver?

bluebeetle 09-03-2008 06:06 PM

gee...that didn't take very long!!!

Seriously wouldn't mind one that had a fuel efficient engine, easy to operate 13 speed and the correct gear ratio to effectively get the freight up and down all necessary roads.

What was sitting on top of that would definetly have to have all of the necessary comforts to make it enjoyable.

allan5oh 09-03-2008 07:13 PM

The one with the best fuel mileage. Period.

HWD 09-03-2008 07:35 PM

I love the looks of the Volvo 730, don't see many on the road around here, guess most say to hell with it and get the full condo for the same money...anyway that's what I would choose.

Malaki86 09-03-2008 07:45 PM

The 730 is the mid-roof or flat top version of the 780, correct?

Rev.Vassago 09-03-2008 08:00 PM

It would be the most expensive truck I could have built, and I would immediately sell it and invest in something with a better return.

Yes. More of a mid-roof. It's actually very roomy. Same as 780, just a couple less feet. The 780 is too tall anyways.

The 730, 780, 830, and 880 all have the same length bunks, around 78" or so.

The 730 and 830 are mid-roof. The 780 and 880 are full height.

The 730 and 780 have the usual "slanted" hood".

The 830 and 880 have the much larger square hood. These only come with ISX's or D16's, unfortunately.

I'd probably take the 730 over anything else.

Double L 09-04-2008 02:07 AM

Inflatable sheep? Don't you mean his inflatable Sarah Palen doll?

If you are married and you have relations with a blow-up doll is that considered cheating?

Windwalker 09-04-2008 04:27 AM

I would not want a new truck. about a 2000, long-nose Pete with a 3406, 500 Cat. 13 speed, with 3:46 rears. 150 gal per side. And, make that "MIDNIGHT BLUE". (with anti-radar, "STEALTH" paint...)

carlos64030 09-05-2008 05:50 AM

I'd take a Volvo VN780:

http://www.truckpaper.com/images/Tru...e/77924878.jpg

or the VT880:

It's nice to be back Roadhog.

As for dump trucking it's going real good if your a company driver but the owner ops are having a real bad time right now.
