Depends on what I was going to with it. If I was going to run interstate, then I'd be satisfied with a Freightliner Argosy with the 110" sleeper - midroof, of course. I don't need a big motor. 13 O/D and perhaps something around the 450 - 460 range with a set of 3.73s would be sufficient.
Now if I was doing something local, such as end dump, local delivery of whatever, etc., I'd want something with around a 250 - 260 inch wheelbase, because of the way our bridge law works here... it's complicated beyond belief, and it really makes no sense.. if I were running an interstate load through this state with a cabover, I'd still be allowed to gross 80k, but, if I were running local with a state exemption number and a one-state fuel tax sticker, I wouldn't be able to gross the full 80k with such a short tractor. So, if I were going to get a daycab, I'd probably say Western Star 4964 or International 9900. Being 6'2, legroom is a concern. |
I'll go with the Volvo 880 too, with a big engine and a lot of auto-shift gears to go with it.

I saw a Brinks truck broke down in Kentucky a few days ago. Talk about a lot of flashing lights for that one. There was a 2nd Brinks truck backed against the 1st. There was a tow truck, a shop truck and 4 of KY's finest. They even blocked off the right lane for it. All of this was on the shoulder. Ya - whatever was in that truck would've done me nicely for awhile. Heck, even if it was only to buy a nice new truck and keep working for a living. |
Peterbilt 389 with a 13 speed.
