I think that was only live, during the Psalm 69 era.

I havn't gotten that far into my CDs yet :D
But for the time being, here something to hold you over:
TURN IT UP

And if you ever get a chance to see them live, GET SEATS IN THE PITS. Front and center, five feet from Dave :D

Rev.Vassago 08-20-2008 11:59 AM

BTW, bands like Pantera and Slayer are just more mainstream friendly versions of bands like D.R.I.

THIS is real metal.

Now, since this a "20 questions" thread,
Name your top five favorite bands AND name your top band, song, and/or CD that you listen to when you "just got to get there".

I'll have an answer later tonight or first thing tomorrow. Gotta think about that one.

Rev.Vassago 08-20-2008 04:54 PM

Okay, I'll start answering the question tonight, and I'll finish it tomorrow.

The reason this is a difficult question to answer is because I don't really own that many CD's, and the ones I do own, I don't listen to all that much. Don't get me wrong - I listen to music all the time, but it is pretty much exclusively mp3's off my computer, and it is always changing.

The top band, that's easy. Nine Inch Nails. I've been listening to them since about 1990, back before anyone knew who the hell they were. My favorite album by them is The Downward Spiral.

Favorite song and CD are the hard ones, though. My favorite song changes with my mood. One album that always wins, however, is "Disintegration" by The Cure. It is one of my favorite albums of all time, and it holds the award for the best make-out album EVER. I spent many a night in High School making out w/ my girlfriend Becky to that album.

As far as what I listen to when I "just got to get there", it really depends on the time of day. During the day, I prefer harder, faster music. At night, I prefer more ambient music. I have been known to put on classical music at night very loudly. It just seems to keep me awake. I love the complexity of it.

Tomorrow, when I get a free moment, I will post the current music that is in my mp3 player, which will give a good indication as to the wide variation in my musical tastes. It's currently less than 100 songs, so it won't be a terribly long list, lol.

Yawn. Had you said MEGADETH, I might have given you props.
My cuz is married to the originator of Trans Siberian Orchestra of which Al Pitrelli (and his wife) is part of..I've been watching him play for years. The man can work that ax!!!

NotSteve 08-20-2008 05:43 PM

MEGADEATH, SLAYER? WTF. What ever happened to good old music like Muskrat Love and Donny and Marie. Now that's real music.

lol...Yes, I did fuel there and it was I think $4.30 or close to that. I think IL or IN was $4.06. Since I pay IFTA it doesn't matter much, it all comes out to a wash.

LOL. I fueled there too. I paid $3.95. :P

Rev.Vassago 08-21-2008 03:57 AM

OKAY - this should be interesting. At least for me, that is. I've got my player set to play randomly, so they will be in no particular order.

1. "Lit Up" - Buckcherry ~ this is one of those songs that I have to crank up as loud as I can. This song reminds me of 70's guitar rock.
2. "Because the Night" - 10,000 Maniacs ~ This is from their "MTV Unplugged" performance. It is a cover of a Patti Smith song, and has been a favorite of mine since they first performed it.
3. "Felines" - Front 242 ~ Front 242 was one of those industrial/electronic bands that were a big part of my youth.
4. "Working for the Weekend" - Loverboy ~ What can I say? I like cheesy 80's music.
5. "Small Town" - John Mellencamp ~ See #4
6. "Supernaut" - 1000 Homo DJ's ~ This is a side project of Al Jourgensen, and is a cover of the Black Sabbath song.
7. "The Reason" - Hoobastank ~ like I said, my musical tastes jump all over the place. Plus, the girl in the music video for this song is friggin hot.
8. "Folsom Prison Blues" - The Geezers ~ This is a Rockabilly cover of the Johnny Cash song. I love good Rockabilly music. -
9. "Take it Easy" - The Eagles
10. "Crazy Bitch" - Buckcherry ~ the best chorus EVER.
11. "Beverly Hills" - Weezer
12. "5 Shots" - Holy Rollin' Hellfires ~ I'll discuss this band more later.
13. "Hot Rod Lincoln" - Commander Cody ~ This is some CLASSIC Rockabilly music. The real deal.
14. "Ring of Fire" - Social Distortion ~ A fantastic cover of a fantastic Johnny Cash song.
15. "Breaker 19" - The Holy Rollin' Hellfires ~ I found this band on Myspace, and it is the only place I've been able to find their music, but I love the three songs that I have by them. From what I heard, the band isn't together anymore.
16. "Sex on Wheels" - My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult ~ This band was a spinoff of Ministry, from their earlier days.
17. "No one Knows" - Queens of the Stone Age ~ Awesome band. Very underrated.
18."Push" - The Cure ~ from the greatest album ever - Disintegration.
19. "Monkey Wrench" - Foo Fighters ~ Dave Grohl is friggin awesome.
20. "Alcohaulin Ass" - HELLYEAH ~ Awesome song. Has a real "southern rock" feel to it, which is an automatic win.
21. "Never Gonna Stop" - Rob Zombie ~ Can't really go wrong with a little Zombie.
22. "One Piece at a Time" - Johnny Cash ~ This is about as close as I come to liking country music. I don't consider Johnny Cash country, though. IMHO, he's more a cross between Southern Rock and Rockabilly.
23. "Millenium" - Front Line Assembly ~ Awesome guitars, with industrial mixed in.
24. "Mr. Brightside" - The Killers
25. "So Hott" - Kid Rock ~ Another contender for best chorus ever.
26. "Give it All" - Rise Against ~ A Chicago band that has a "ska" feel to them.
27. "Supernova" - Liz Phair ~ She's hot, and her older music isn't that bad either.
28. "You Spin Me Round" - Dope ~ Great cover of a cheezy 80's song.
29. "March of the Pigs" - Nine Inch Nails ~ Nuff said.
30. "Sweet Home Alabama" - Lynyrd Skynyrd ~ Southern Rock WINS.
31. "Suburban Home" - Descendents ~ 80's punk rock music.
32. "Temple of Love" - Sisters of Mercy ~ Another band that I listened to a lot in my younger days.
33. "Reload" - Ministry ~ Awesome guitars. This is the album where Ministry gave up all the industrial and electronic roots they had, and went straight guitar.
34. "I don't wanna grow up" - Descendents ~ Awesome punk rock song.
35. "Light" - KMFDM ~ AWESOME.
36. "Ramblin Man" - The Allman Brothers ~ Wow, that was a huge jump, lol
37. "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" - Steve Ouimette ~ This is a metal version of the Charlie Daniels Band song from Guitar Hero III.
38. "Plainsong" - The Cure ~ again, from Disintegration.
39. "Silly Girl" - Descendents ~ Awesome punk rock love song.
40. "Superbeast" - Rob Zombie
41. "Burning Inside" - Ministry ~ Hard rock doesn't get any better than this.
42. "Lonely Ol' Night" - John Mellencamp ~ LOL.
43. "Feel like Makin Love" - Bad Company
44. "Dig It" - Skinny Puppy ~ 80's Industrial music. Al Jourgensen of Ministry was involved.
45. "Man of Constant Sorrow" - Soggy Bottom Boys ~ from the movie "Oh Brother Where Art Thou?"
46. "New World Order" - Ministry ~ Another awesome Ministry song.
47. "Black Betty" - Spiderbait ~ Southern Hillbilly hard rock.
48. "Acid Rain" - D.R.I. - REAL thrash metal.
49. "Cocaine Blues" - Johnny Cash ~ The best song EVER.
50. "Take Me Out" - Franz Ferdinand
51. "So What" - Ministry
52. "The Trade" - D.R.I.
53. "Pretend We're Dead" - L7
54. "Magic" - The Cars
55. "More" - Sisters of Mercy ~ My favorite Sisters of Mercy song.
56. "Rockstar" - Nickelback ~ This one just ended up on my playlist last week.
57. "This Corrosion" - Sisters of Mercy
58. "Roadhouse Blues" - Ministry ~ I don't like The Doors, but I LOVE this cover.
59. "Somebody Told Me" - The Killers
60. "Bring Me To Life" - Evanescence
61. "Jesus Built my Hotrod" - Ministry
62. "Just One Fix" - Ministry ~ Wow - I have a lot of Ministry on my playlist.
63. "Headhunter" - Front 242 ~ one of my favorite Front 242 songs.
64. "I live for Drugs" - My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult ~ Awesome song.
65. "Sweet n Low" - The Holy Rollin' Hellfires ~ my favorite HRH song.
66. "White Wedding" - Queens of the Stone Age ~ great Billy Idol cover.
67. "Tragedy for You" - Front 242
68. "Stigmata" - Ministry
69. "Little Sister" - Queens of the Stone Age
70. "Breakout" - Foo Fighters
71. "Kabuki Girl" - Descendents

So there you go. 8) If you want links to any of these songs, let me know.

RebelDarlin 08-21-2008 04:09 AM

Not bad... I like the Ram Jam version of Black Betty better though, some great guitar riffs in it.

Twilight Flyer 08-21-2008 04:55 AM

60. "Bring Me To Life" - Evanescence
Good freakin' song. I'm doing a music video with 3 of my kids on that one. Might try to finish it up this weekend, if time allows.

mommee 08-21-2008 06:07 AM

That's impressive list. I'm out much of a classic rock or country music person. My fave NIN album is Pretty Hate Machine. I love Ring Finger. I have dug out Filth Pig and Jesus Built My Hotrod.

Just an avatar. I don't read self help books, because I'm beyond help.

The answer depends upon the scale used.

mommee 09-05-2008 05:20 AM

The Fujita Scale.

Good scale. I'd say an F0. Maybe an F1, if I ignore the numbers.
