Mack, if your using it out of your home, might want to make sure your neighbors are cool with it. Had a neighbor when I was younger that had one that whenever he started keying up, it bled over real bad on our TV and phones. Got to the point that some times, it didn't work at all when he tried to key up........... :shock: but I know nothing of why the line between the antenna and the ground was cut by a knife during the night. :P

Best advice I can give on 10 meter is-

always look down and make sure there's water in the pool before you dive in.

ok seriously:

CB is 11 meter Band

google: converting 10 meter radio to 11 meter Band

or look at this;

http://cbradiomagazine.com/March%202...7%20Review.htm

do you really want to spend $60-80.00 dollars for some CB shop to take your radio around the corner to the back room and use a jewelers screwdriver to flip a DIM pin setting on the motherboard?

Magnum 257

To modify the radio to work on the 11 meter band (these instructions are for the newer blue face models only) you need to remove the speaker side cover and look for the CPU board in the front of the radio near the microphone connector. Like many export radios this board has 4 sets of pins and a jumper that fits on the pins, to convert the radio for expanded operations move the jumper to the CON 3 position and you will have coverage from 25.165 - 29.699 MHz. The frequencies are divided into banks labeled by a letter on the LCD, press the CALL button to go through the bands, the CB band is BAND E.

Theres alot more to this then i thought. :shock: Maybe i will just stick with my 40 ch CB and call it a day. But i am going to look into this more. Maybe take a ride to my local CB shop see what they say. Thanks for all your help. Keep it coming.

there is nobody just talking away on the other channels anyway. you are buying an amatuer transeiver...nevermind the 10 meter bs. you can still talkon channel 19 with an amatuer transiever.

Basically a 10 meter radio is a miniature ham radio with 300-400 channels. Because its a ham and not a CB they come with 30-100 watts of power instead of the legal 4 watts allowed by a CB. But they are made so you can easily convert it to work on 19 with a simple mod on the inside. You can look up the "mod" for your radio or have the dealer do it. Keep in mind the extra wattage just sounds "big" but isnt going get you out alot farther. So many factors come in to play like antennaes, coax, weather, other signals drowning you out, the receiver's radio, etc. If you dont want or need the extra channels and knobs you could do the same by buying a linear amp. GI JOE has the 3300 for $179. Very solid simple 10 meter radio with a big sound. Get an astatic mike for $18 and you'll sound awesome. General Lee is the exact same thing for $174. They're both bullet proof. I did all the reading last summer and it'll just confuse you LOL! If you're not that into it they all do the same thing more or less. I bought a big Magnum and all I do is 19 anyway. My buddy has a friggin Walmart special and we can talk 8-10 miles if its quiet. :lol:

Will not be long anyway, with all these high power radios and super noise toys, and the operators that could give a rat's tail less about other users, that channel 19 will be nothing but one huge heterodyne squeal in all but the most rural areas! And with the solar cycle coming up, in a couple of years, all you will hear is the Chinese, no matter how much power you are pushing!

There is a guy in Houston now, that can completely lock down 19 for quite a while, with his echo and 1500 plus watt station!

huh?? country horseman...awful big words to be talking to a truckdriver. i was just letting him know not to get to frazzeled. if mackman wants to generally just talk on 19 or any of the 40 channels do not get worked up in all the lingo. on a side not, where is snowman buying astatic mikes for 18 dollars, give me 10 because they go for about 49 or 59 at most cb shops and truckstops...i can make a killin'. but good advice with the linear, although they just make you stronger...not louder. you can talk further away if someone has similar equipment and there is no interference. i run a general lee and it walks the dog from what i have been told, also got 250 kicker for that added extra. seems to do the job. antenna set up is the key though i beleive. good coax, good ground, swr set properly. to be loud will cost money, because in my case you think you are big then you want to go bigger, and bigger and so on so on. shop around, look at generals, connex, magnum, stryker for big loud radios. you can also go cobra 29, uniden 78, and through 100 dollar bill into and be a big loud talking radio for around 180-200 bucks.
