NEW Delorme 2009 Plus
delorme just released the new 2009 plus http://tinyurl.com/3p8erj
New 16-channel GPS with the next-generation Teseotm chipset for super-fast satellite acquisition times New Street Atlas USA 2009 now includes NavMode, which puts all the critical GPS readouts on one large easy-to-read screen with a push of a button. It’s the cockpit view you’ve been asking for Switch between 2-D and new 3-D map views for lifelike NavMode navigation and the new LT-40 works with Vista...! ordered mine today so it will be at the house when we get home. will let you know how we like it in about 2 weeks |
HOW MUCH??????
I was going to dump my laptop based GPS and go with a standalone model, but this sounds like it might be worth swapping out! |
I ordered mine with the BlueTooth GPS online Sunday, it also should be there when I get back. Did you get the Plus? The Plus has the phone directory in it and is especially handy finding your pickup/dropoff point. Usually has much better than dispatcher directions (based on the 2008 version).
Rev, go to Delorme.com, they have several packages available. You can choose either a wired GPS (don't know why) or a bluetooth wireless GPS. |
Last year their tech support department told me that the 2009 update would have a truck specific routing option! Do not see anything on the spec sheet stating such!
With 2008, it took some tweaking and common since, but it was not bad! Hope they updated their Texas maps. There are several that were re-built, moved or new altogether several years ago, that have not been updated! That annoying off-route - recalculating voice, when you are on the correct route!  |
FYI, it is $30 cheaper at Best Buy

Situation: As a long-haul trucker, there are necessities upon which you depend: a hot meal, a shower and the camaraderie of your fellow truckers, all of which can be found at the many interstate truck stops. Increasingly you have been finding that these facilities do not live up to your expectations or do not provide the services that you demand. Solution: With Street Atlas USA on the laptop computer in your cab, you have access to extensive information about the truck stops throughout the country. Using the search tools you can quickly locate those that are along your route and, using the Info function, you can quickly see the services they provide. This includes the number of parking spaces, the food that is available, and the bathroom facilities. A quick click of your mouse button adds the truck stop to your route. Capability Available In: Street Atlas USA 2009 Street Atlas USA 2009 PLUS On the tinyurl link, there's a link that takes you to this popup - it's labeled "Planning a truck route" |

Thanks Rev., I guess the only thing new there, is they are putting the POI's in the software from the factory. I added them in in my '08 version!

Found it. Go to this page (Sample Maps):
http://shop.delorme.com/OA_HTML/DELi...DemosTutorials It's the 2nd down on the left. |
Ok I know this is about GPS but where do I find Drivers Daily Log program ,how much, and how does it work, like a labtop in the truck and do you need internet for it to work?

So all I need is a computer in my truck with a printer and buy this program and download in my computer and roll with it? And it said every couple of months update it but I could do that when I got home (internet)? And I guess it might be a good investment to buy a internet connection and buy this GPS program too and download it and should be good to go?

Great find flood, thx!
Hey Rev Amazon has it for $64.99 w/ free shipping. http://tinyurl.com/6oecgo I ordered mine! I decided I didn't need the plus version. I have an aircard which gives me access to phone numbers and google earth aerial imaging. |
one nice thing about the PLUS is you can click on a street and it will give you ALL the listed numbers on that street. then click the number and it will map it on the street.
sbatson if you have delorme and driver daily log the two can be linked and driver daily log will use delorme's gps for location for all your log entries. no need to look or even know what little town your in just click and it puts it in your log. |

I got that nifty email from Delorme offering me the Plus version for $79.95, and since it has the word "plus" attached to it, I think I will have to get that one. Although, I can get the bluetooth version for $89.95, and I have had to replace my Delorme because I smashed the USB in the door..... Decisions, decisions.... |
we have the antenna on the inside of the skylite and it works great just need to use a 6' usb extension cord.
to use delorme's antenna with ddl you will need to download and run delorme serial port emulator then download the gps add on http://www.driversdailylog.com/ddlgpsinformation.htm you will find a link here for delorme's emulator but i don't know if this one will work with vista or not.... works just fine on XP |

if you get delorme you will also need this Srevice Pack 2 upgrade online for it.
http://www.delorme.com/support/suppo...te.aspx?id=389 sorry rev but thats the nice thing about a volvo 780 :D btw i friend has a 780 and he said his new lt-20 was working on the dash and this new lt-40 should work better so you MAY get away with it on the dash |
Man there is no way that I am even going to pass this up, why would anyone not have this and I do plan on getting both, it seems like it takes the guess work out of it with no mistakes.
|
just remember that a gps is just a tool it helps just as google maps does but ALWAYS use common sense
|
Heh - you'd love my setup in my truck then
7" touchscreen monitor in the front, 17" widescreen laptop in the sleeper I run CoPilot, Drivers Daily Log, a Sprint aircard and Windows XP Media Center Edition. I have literally hundreds of movies/tv episodes on the laptop at any given time to watch while sitting around. |

Here's a bunch of them: http://store.mp3car.com/category_s/27.htm I have this one, except mine doesn't have the video inputs (don't need em anyway): http://store.mp3car.com/Xenarc_700TSV_p/mon-004.htm This is the 1st monitor I had and I loved it - right up until I broke it: http://store.mp3car.com/Lilliput_7_V..._p/mon-001.htm This is the one I recommend - if I was replacing my current one, it's the one I'd buy: http://store.mp3car.com/2008_Lillipu..._p/mon-016.htm The monitors come with a stand so you can mount it to the dash. The stands have double-sided tape on them, or you can put a couple screws to hold it more securely (which I had to do). My monitor is mounted on a custom mounting plate that I made. The plate is 1/4" Lexan with a piece of steel mounted to it to let the monitor "slide" onto it. The Lexan mounting plate is then held to the sun-visor with heavy duty Velcro straps I had sewn onto them. There are a couple cables coming off of the monitor (either 2 or 3) depending on the monitor. The Lilliput's have 3 cables (VGA, USB, Power) and the Xenarc's have 2 (VGA/USB combo, Power). Both models of the monitors come with the 12v DC cigarette lighter plugins. The cables come across from the monitor to about mid-dash. They then go to the windshield and down in the center of the windshield. My truck is a Volvo, so it looks like it's a split-windshield now instead of a one-piece. I had to add 2 extension cables to the computer for the monitor to work. Remember, my laptop stays in the sleeper. I bought 16' extensions for both USB & VGA. I also have a 4 port unpowered USB hub in the front of the truck, giving me a place to plug in my 2nd keyboard and GPS receiver. I ran the extension cables into a plastic split-loom harness (it now looks like one big cable) and ran it along the passenger side of the truck, behind the cabinet, then into the computer. |
Thanks man, I depreciate it.
|
I finally decided to make a web page describing my system in detail, along with links to everything I use. If you want to check it out, here's the link:
http://www.freewebs.com/malaki86/ I think I've got everything listed in it. |
just got off the phone with delorme and yes the LT-40 antenna will work with vista BUT the serial port emulator WILL NOT work with vista.
so if you have vista you can use delorme but you can't use third party gps software like drivers daily log with the delorme until they put out a vista |

I received my Delorme Street Atlas 2009 Plus last week, and I've been playing around with it. So far, I like it a lot better than 2006. The GPS antenna works a lot better. I managed to pull a GPS signal while sitting in my living room. I've done 2 trips with it so far, and it's been accurate on both. I like the "ETA" feature that tells you what time you'll arrive, rather than giving you hours and minutes until arrival. The 3-D view is really easy to read. It is designed to be able to be used with smaller touchscreen monitors, and gives the option of disabling excess graphics to allow the maps to be larger. The voice works with Vista (2006 didn't). The maps are heavily updated, and a lot more accurate than 2006 was. I love the integrated White Pages and Yellow Pages: It does so much more than the old "POI" system ever did.
I give Delorme SA 2009 Plus 4 1/2 lightbulbs. :idea::idea::idea::idea::?: |
how user friendly is Delomore??
and it cost $100? |
