Give me some good trucker songs!

Hey looking to put together some music and looking for some good ideas, tell me what you got.

Oakdancer 04-11-2008 05:04 PM

Assuming you want some good driving music and not just a collection of stuff with trucks referrenced in the lyrics. Here's a few to start you off:

Radar Love - Golden Earring

Highway To Hell - AC/DC

Wanted Dead Or Alive - Bon Jovi

Highway Star - Deep Purple

Creeque Alley - Mamas and the Papas (kinda slow compared to the rest of these, but you need something to calm you down in traffic jams LOL)

Running On Empty - Jackson Browne

Blue Collar Man - Styx

Already Gone and Midnight Flyer - The Eagles

Dirty White Boy - Foreigner

Soul Man - The Blues Brothers

Additionally, almost anything by Bad Company, and if you absolutely MUST have an actual truck drivin' song in your collection, it's just gotta be 30,000 Pounds of Bananas by Harry Chapin - just don't let your wife listen to it before you make a trip through Scranton, PA! LOL

There is nothing like the old trucking songs of the 1960's and 1970's. Convoy, Phantom 309 and East Bound and Down are three that come to mind.

You have the songs by Red Sovine like Teddy Bear among others that are some good old truckers songs.

Roll On by Alabama is another that comes to mind (though I must admit that one tends to choke me up.)

NEVER and I repeate NEVER listen to any(especially that song) Weird Al well driving down the road. The truck behind you will think that you are drunk or sleepy beacuse you will not be able to hold it streight from laughing so hard.
Now blasting Amish Paridise as you go through Lancaster,PA(withh the windows down) on route 30 is another story :D .

As for trucking songs, you got many choices. Allot of the older country songs from the 60's and 70's were about trucking. I got alot of the songs off of Napster. Now if I want to really get down the road, a little Metallica, Megadeth, or Iron Maiden helps :D .

sbatson 04-13-2008 08:01 AM

Keep them coming guys I'm making a list so I can get some good Cds out of it.

TruckerChris 04-13-2008 08:39 AM

Some truckstop sell cd's by Joey Holiday. While some of the songs may be cheesy, there are some good songs. Check him out

Well to have a real collection of trucking music,

you have to have the complete works of Red Sovine

Convoy-- by C.W. McCall

White Line Fever- Merle Haggard( the song not the movie(1975))

Jerry Reeves- Smokey & the Bandit
Del Reeves- Girl on the billboard(wearing nothing but a smile)
Dave Dudley-- How fast them trucks can go & others

Maggard Cletus- White Knight:

Down 75 or 85,
Or I-20 t'other way,
Turn your squelch to the right
And in the night
You'll hear some good buddy say,
"Breaker breaker,
Got a picture taker,
ol' Smokey's at forty three."

It's that Japanese toy,
The trucker's joy
That everybody calls CB.
Yeah, Citizen's Band, keeps you up to date
On fender benders and Tijuana taxis,
And all them bears out there. Flip flop.

Now ahead of your children and ahead of your wife
On the list of the ten best things in life,
Your CB's gotta rate right around number four.
'Course beavers and hot biscuits and Merle Haggard
Come one, two, three, you know.

Well I was loaded down, coming outta Lake City;
I was checkin' out seat covers, young and pretty,
When all of a sudden there come a call
Over my CB, ringin' wall to wall,
Said clove her double nickels till you hit the ridge,
'Cause there's a Smokey picture taker t'other side of the bridge.

"Oh mercy, 'ppreciate that, good buddy;
What's your handle there, come on?
You got any county mounties out there prowlin', come on?"
And he said --

"Ten four...back door,
Put the peddle to the metal and...let it roar
Hammer down...to Macon town...
Gonna see my momma...sure.
Well, the bears are gone,
Let's...bring it on...
The Georgia line's...out of sight.
Pulled outta Richmond town last Saturday night,
And my handle is...the White Knight,
How 'bout it?"

"All right, White Knight, hammer down,
You got the mean machine here."
I was a streakin'
My needle was a peakin'
A right around seventy nine.
That old diesel juice
Was a gettin' loose,
And everything was fine.
But wall to wall
I got a call
Front door, big bear trapper.
Said, "Break one nine,
Good buddy of mine,
You got a Smokey in a plain white wrapper."

Well I jammed my stick,
I lost twenty quick;
You could hear them gears a tearin'.
I got passed by a beaver,
And a Camaro,
I was cruisin' alone
And going so slow
I could count every button on that frilly blouse she was wearin'.

'Course there weren't but one.

"Hey there, super trooper!
Yeah -- that's the crafty Smokey over there with a CB of his own.
Hey White Knight, let's slide one on the super trooper, come on?"

"Ten four, back door.
Put the peddle to the metal, whatcha...waitin' for?
That old flop
Can't stay in sight,
Gonna leave you here and say no more,
How 'bout it?"

"Whoa, now, buddy, that's fightin' talk,
I'd get up there and blow your doors off!"

Well I hammered down like I had wings,
Little gravels in my wheels going ping, ping, ping.
'Bout the time I hit ninety-two,
Saw something flashing' in my rear view.
Thought to myself that can't be true,
But there it was, old blue, blue, blue.

Uh oh. Bubble gum machine done hit the jackpot.

Well I could see that bear, laughing big,
Hangin' in tight on the back of my rig.
Right there and then it came to be wall to wall.
Mm-hmm.

So in that cold dark Georgia night,
In the shadows of Smokey bear's blue light,
I 'cided to make me just one more CB call.

"Breaker one nine for the super trooper,
Hey there, Smokey old buddy, tell me if I'm right,
Are you my front door? Are you the White Knight? Come on?"
And he said --

"Ten four, back door.
You're in a heap of trouble boy...that's for sure.
Gonna read you your rights, and treat you fair.
Pull over there,
With your...rockin' chair.
Want you boys to know each other real well,
'Cause you gonna be sharin' the same jail cell.
You make twelve cotton pickers I've caught tonight,
From the front door of that White Knight.
Hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha!!
How 'bout it?
Hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha!!
Forty miles over the speed limit!
You boys gonna be here a spell.
Hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha!!
Hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha!!"

That's it, cotton pickers, I've done been grounded;
My tail's in jail, my rig impounded.
So when you're comin' through the Georgia night,
Don't ever get no front door called the White Knight.

No sir. Wind up in the pokey with Smokey.
I'm gonna pull that old CB thing out by the wires.
I don't care if it is

I will have to agree with that sentiment.

A lot of my favorites have been mentioned. So far we missed several from the Garth Brooks Double Live album:

Papa loved Mama

Baton Rouge

Ain't goin' Down Till the Sun Comes Up

All right, so that last one isn't quite about trucks, but it is my unofficial theme song. A couple others that seem to relate to trucking to me:

Who says you can't go home, by Bon Jovi and Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland.

What about now, by Lonestar

Free and easy down the road I go, by Dierks Bently

Mr. Ford95 04-18-2008 11:30 AM

Jason Aldean's "Asphalt Cowboy"

Head, did you mean Jerry Reed??

I got a CD, Classic Country Road Songs. Some good one's on there like Elvis' "Promised Land" Kathy Mattea's "18 Wheels and a Dozen Roses" to name a few. Also got CW McCall's Greatest Hits and the Black Dog movie soundtrack. Good stuff if you don't mind country.

yeah sorry, meant Jerry Reed

cowboy songs fit well with trucking too-

Johnny Cash & Merle Haggard & Keith Whitley

7 Spanish Angels

This is the last Cowboy Song

I really don't like Box Car Willie- and really don't like Bill Mack's Intro music( the Train whistle theme) Trains compete against trucks and lately all you see is containers going cross country- and everyone is a load that some trucker is missing out on.

If you're looking for something which could be related to trucking and travel, perhaps 'Back On the Road' from the NWoBHM Blitzkrieg would suit you.

If you want a cheaper alternative, just get a CD player with MP3 playback.. you can put a whole hell of a lot of mp3s on a CD-R, and it doesn't cost nearly as much as an iPod.

But, if you absolutely must go that route, you might be better advised just to purchase an mp3 player, rather than an iPod. MP3 sites typically sell their songs much cheaper than Apple's iTunes does, and the mp3 format can be transferred between devices, whereas the iTunes format really can't be.

I get all my mp3 for free-- P2P why buy what you can share. The problem with burning all those mp3 CD's is the time and work involved. I like the quick computer download... I've tried the mp3 flash sticks-- but 2 gig isn't enough.... I want something I can transfer via USB my music-- then plug & play... I have a laptop 2.5 HD with nothing but 80 gig of mp3 music--- problem is you can't plug and play it & control the track, etc.

DaveFromColorado 04-22-2008 07:00 AM

no one suggested "eastbound and down" ... from the movie Smokey and the Bandit?

LOL
