How do you see the Future in Trucking?
 

Will the way things are today, be viewed as the good old days?
What do you see the Trucking Industry like in one or two decades?

Shipping corridors? Truck only lanes? ...etc.

I predict you will need to speak Spanish ,and hiring critera will list speaking English as a plus ,But not required . :wink:

Arabic and Spanish road signs, lower wages, slower trucks, shorter work days and longer breaks. You will either work for Swift, JB Hunt, Schieder, Fedex or UPS (because they bought out all the smaller company's).

Bright future for the trucker in the Indian States of Mexico

As far as the next decade,

1) Railroads will not make any progress as far as taking freight away from trucking.

2) APU's will not become too much more popular. Trucking companies don't want to spend anymore than what is nessesary to equip a truck; As long as no-idling enforcement remains lax---there will be no motivation to equip the trucks with APU units.

3) i believe there will be even less truck brands on the market.

4) There will actually be less trucking companies---both LTL and TL.

sad to say; that's a big "no- :dung:- er"

implies things get progressively worse.

I think we all need to be using these laptops and doing some distance learning/ take some on-line courses to get out of this industry. Just how many of you guys know of any drivers that started with a company as a driver and is now in UPPER MANAGEMENT today?


I also predict the future demise of OTR; without a 'sleeper berth provision' which companies can utilize to make drivers more productive----the presence of said sleeper only costs money and encourages drivers to Idle(burning fuel $$$$)---
I predict the re-emergance of DayCabs(cheaper trucks) and the BUNKHOUSE concept again-----BUNKHOUSES every 400miles on major trucking routes- not too much expense for a large carrier to buy a old run down motel with some adjacent real estate to park tractor-trailers...and BUNKHOUSES will be back in Vogue.

So I guess the "Lot Lizards" will then be called "Bunkhouse Ladies"... :lol: :lol:

It really depends on drivers. Will wages go up? Will miles go up? I think both will. In the short future, their will be cheaper drivers from other countries....but they will fail. Cheap equipment + no English speaking drivers = big lawsuits for cooperations from accidents. Judges will side with victims of these truck related accidents, citing that these cooperations should have known better than to hire "Non-American, non-English speaking aliens".

The McMega Carriers are already having problems filling the seats...the internet will either get them to change their ways, or go out of business.

The amount of smaller companies will grow as view as "An All American Trucking Company" becomes more popular. More customer will start to boycott cooperations like WalMart for using non-American drivers. It will be politically correct to use American Drivers, so hiring from other countries (mainly Mexico) will be non-PC. However, drivers from Canada will be allowed in this PC world.....not sure why, but they will be the exception.

The boarders will be enforced between Mexico and the USA. The boarder patrol will consist of.....you guessed it...Illegals made legal citizens of USA from Mexico, whom no longer want to have others Mexicans coming into "their" country, and taking away the jobs they worked so hard to get.

And in 2016, the very first female black president will take office.....you guessed it again. President Oprah Winfrey will end the long war against drugs by legalizing cocaine. However, cocaine use will be segregated to certain parts of the country, and users will not be allowed to have children, and must sign a early life termination agreement to end their life at 40. In return, they will be allotted a certain amount of cocaine per day. The cocaine will then flow freely for this agreement, lowering it's value to less than a pack of cigarettes, which will be $20 per pack. Anyone caught using cocaine outside of the area, or without a agreement, will be terminated without a trial as long as portable testing results have concluded the use of these drugs.

Bunk houses more like bunk tents Army style . And gangshowers to save water haha . More double 53 ft. trailers . Most co. trucks are 65 mph. now , in the future 58 mph. The trucks are super cheep now have you driven a columbia freight shacker lately , a 1974 mack has a better ride. I see it going backwards , but we,ll keep heaters in them and not have a wood burner like the old days.

The future is already here on the main high ways out west, day cab turnpikes, day cad pulls two 53' vans or refers out six hours, drops them off brings two more back, home each night, or day whichever you are on. cheep trucks, one man dose two's work, and he is home every day.
Alberta is already testing triples, so boys and girls say hallo to the spouse.
