So why don't you get an amateur radio license the test is not that difficult.
Just drop by the local Radio Shack and pick up the book Now You're Talking read it and take the practice tests. When you think you're ready, find a local amateur radio club and find out when the next test session is, take the test and get the license. Then you can chat with truckers all over the world not just the handful in a truck stop.

I have a license. No one ever bothered to ask... Ray just assumes that anyone who runs a 10 meter doesnt have one. I guess he thinks he is the only one smart enough to get one. there are 6 drivers were I work and we all all have them and we all have licenses. and we dont talk on the 28 mhz band

Then I quess my statements from early would not apply to you, since the message specified illegal radios and operation.

Despite the degradation of the CB community over the years, there are still those that can be quite useful in an Emergency situation on the road. But as many have pointed out, with Cell Phones and On-Star most would not look at that as an issue. Several weeks ago we were able to get a driver assistance in a breakdown by a radio relay to someone that had a decent cell signal in a bad area.

Also, being on the road, if there was a flooded road, severe weather or even another bridge collapse, as a trucker I would like to know about it before I got there. The ability to save a life or prevent damage is still a valuable service that every person alive has the abiltity to assist.

So..does all this mean that I can not go dig out my mother's old set of "moonraker's", mount them on my truck, and go zipping along, chatting to Russian driver's on the sidebands? If I remember right...the old amplifier was still in the box with the base station. Might need a new rotater for the beam though.

MAaaaaaaaaaw....would you turn that dam* thing off...we got schoooooool in the mornin'!!!!!

Just put a weather vane on it and talk to whoever is on the air in that direction. Just make sure your not over height or it will turn into a "bay" station and a "Broken Arrow"
