That would mean more than $500 per week.

The 5 jobs Ive seen so far are 70K a year jobs,
Keep in mind that they are really tough to qualify for. which is probably why they pay so well.
How is this for hardcore qualifications?
3 years of experience in the last 3 years.....that would mean absolutely no unemployment in the last 3 years
No tickets or accidents in the last 3 years.
No DWI ever
No felonies or misdemeaners ever. From what I understand if you bounced a 5 buck check to McDonalds 15 years ago and got charged with a misdemeaner hot check charge.....you dont get the job.
Must be a high school graduate. I dont even think a GED counts
Must be 25 years of age.

Ok....these job pay $70,000/year. So yea, this is what you would expect. When JB pays as much, you can set your standards that high also.

again....we had quite a few drivers who made over 70 grand last year. Like Ive said before, our top company driver made 93 grand last year on the family dollar account.
We even had OTR drivers ( exactly the same job you did) who made over 70K last year. But they must have been doing something wrong, huh clugg?

But not everyone, right?

Sheepdancer 07-06-2007 08:59 AM

Of course not everyone. Do you really think "everyone" deserves the same pay no matter how good or bad they are?
Hell, I know a recruiter who made over 340 grand last year....it wasnt me.
However, Im not upset about it and you wont see me whining about it. Reality: He is just better at it than me. It does encourage me to work harder.

Mackman 07-06-2007 09:19 AM

340k

No. I don't, but a company that's starts out at $70,000/year will, of course, have a higher standard of what they are looking for. JB Hunt has a lower standard, but also has drivers that make less than 10K/yr if they are not working out. Yes, JB has people who make 70K and above. They also have drivers who make 25K or lower. Most will average out around 35-45K. Maybe less.

That's all I'm saying.

Sheepdancer 07-06-2007 09:45 AM

Yep 340K

he is really really good at it. Plus he probably pays about 50k a year of his own money to advertise, market his website and he even employees a team of young people who hit the truck stops for him.

A believe the average for an OTR driver last year was about 49, so you are close. The average for ALL of our drivers in all divisions was a little over 50. I cant remember the exact numbers. we got those averages at the first of the year.

Sheepdancer 07-06-2007 09:56 AM

But I see what you are saying. However, the reason we dont have those kinds of hiring standards is not because not all our drivers make 70K a year. Even if we paid every single driver 70k a year over here, it would be impossible to function as a large company with that strict of hiring standards. We have over 14,000 trucks, I cant imagine how hard it would be trying to fill that many with strict hiring standards. Its pretty hard to find a person in any industry with absolutely no tickets, no sort of misdemeaner charge ever, Absolutely no unemployment in the last 3 years. Ive talked to 20 people today for one of those jobs I was trying to fill. Almost every single one of them wanted the job....However, I was only able to find one that "Might" qualify. He is being checked out now.

Its easier for a smaller company to have strict hiring standards than a big company.
