After further consideration of this subject, I have changed my mind. Suspending Opie and Anthony was a GOOD BUSINESS MOVE. It was good for XM for 3 reasons.
1. XM gets income from 2 sources, Advertisers and Subscribers. The Advertisers were angry, a few cancelled and many more were threatening to cancel. The 30 day suspension will cool them down. Yes, the subscribers were angry, and many called last night and cancelled. They will all call back in 30 days and get service again. 2. There are millions of people in this country who dont know who Opie and Anthony are. All this attention they are getting on the major news networks is FREE ADVERTISING. 3. And this is the hilarious one. I went out to the O&A room on Paltalk last night to see what the fans were saying. 900 people in one chat room. All of them saying that they are cancelling. Hell, they were even going today to a mass protest to smash their radios. In 30 days all those people who cancel will be paying activation fees to get new service. And all those morons who smashed their radios will be buying new radios....Real smart. By the way....they still havent been fired. Its a SUSPENSION. That rumor of them being fired was started by morons on a message board that confuse message boards and chat rooms with reality. When all is said and done. I would hate to see Opie and Anthony go. I wish they had free reign to say whatever they want. I do find their show pretty entertaining. However, they are NOT the only thing I listen to on XM, and even if they do get fired ( they wont yet) I wouldnt cancel my XM over it. I enjoy the product too much and and there are many other things worth listening too on XM. Shows get cancelled in all forms of entertainment....life goes on. I didnt throw away my TV when Seinfeld went off the air. |

I didnt throw away my TV when Seinfeld went off the air. XM is losing subscriptions by the thousands over this. Sirius will be gaining subscriptions over this. If XM brings back O & A totally uncensored then, yes, I will cancel the Sirius and go back to O & A. If not, I'll stay on Sirius. Besides, O & A (Ron & Fez in the afternoon) was all I listened to. The trucking channel on XM is horrible anyway. The DJ's are getting way past prime and not everyone likes to listen to country music that was recorded over 50 years ago. |
If opie and anthony were the only reason you had XM, yes....you should just cancel, buy an ipod and record the show somewhere free on the internet.
Yes, I hate censorship. Like I said, I think Opie and Anthony should be able to say whatever they want. I also support FREEDOM. And part of that freedom means an employer can dictate what their employers say and do. XM radio not Sirius well never be 100% cencor free radio. If it was NAMBALA would have a station. The teaching kids how to make bombs would be a station. The Al Queda network would be on. The Homemade meth channel would be popular. If you like 100% censor free entertainment, like I said...Buy an IPOD and download some of the internet radio talk shows. They are free, they are not corporate controlled and the Air talent says things much more offensive than O & A. Thats where free speech comes in. There is no such thing as free speech on free over the airways radio, nor subscription radio. Corporations can dictate what is said with their stations and that isnt against the constitution. |

I think this decision was much more of a business decision than most here are willing to admit. When the total subscription loss is finally revealed to be insignificant, I'm sure the "pests" will find another excuse. |

Holy crap - the one topic on wackbag is over 125 pages now (3,000+ posts). Most of the posts are from people cancelling their subscriptions to XM. Hmmm - one forum with 3000 cancellations, who know how many in other forums, who knows from people who don't post that they've cancelled.
I'm quite sure XM will get the message. |
