BINGO. This is all it is, just a way for nighttime linehaul drivers to identify their buddies in the dark.

They think its cool I guess.
More likely they do this to break up the monotony and boredom of nighttime linehauls.

Right

I'm a linehaul driver and I'm telling you for a fact that is what it is. Believe it or not. They come in different colors and the slang term really is "good buddy light" although I'm sure the people who have them dont call them that.

but most otr drivers that have a light use it for anti-glare

What they are talking about, is the LTL fellers that run them on their dash so that their buddies recognize them. I've seen some of the Fed Ex trucks with little red lights on the dashes. I didnt think about it, til Snowman mentioned it.

Well the guy said it was Old Dominion pulling doubles, thats LTL!

I have worked with guys at Conway that used those lights, so other LTL's could identify them. The same guys run the same roads every night and you tend to talk and get to know the other drivers.

thats a cool. But what does DOT say do they care that the lights are their?

I dunno? guess the lights hot on the dash while stopping the scale when DOT says stop. Guess sometimes you gotta go when told to stop?

If I remember right it used to be illegal to run that light on the dash.

I cannot remember what they said it was for unless it meant a union truck
