Thanx!!

I just wanted to say thanx to all the colorful people on here. I am usually a very reserved person, so most of the time I just sit back and read everyone's posts. I really enjoy watching all the different points of view and each of the various characters here. Some of the more notables, and forgive me if I forget someone, to me are:

Yoopr-always has some quick, to the point answers, and things to say. Usually very funny
Wot-has a very interesting "way" about him. has given me some insight to the other side of the Atlantic. Very funny, indeed.
Consider-a very interesting view of everything. Most of the time, refreshing. Sometimes even funny.
roadhog-not much to say, except he keeps me in stitches.
GMAN-very knowledgeable and experienced. Also can be funny, when necessary. gets me to read some threads that I otherwise wouldn't. i.e.- ANY O/O thread-due to my desire to never be one, yet I enjoy reading his posts.(there are others, he just sticks out the most)
Rev-what can I say, for some reason or another, I like to see what he has to say about things. He is also funny at times.
AFF-another amusing read. very colorful, both figuratively and literally.

As I said, there are others and I'm sorry if I offended anyone. I truly enjoy so many of the posters here. And to everyone I say THANX!!

WildK9 11-05-2006 04:47 AM

Also, Skywalker, Windwalker, dollarshort, (all his JB ranting, lol) and that shyykatt. (the innocent ditzy blond aspect-no offence intended) Actually there are too many to name them all. One main ingredient that I really look for is humor. IMHO, you have to be able to laugh at yourself sometimes. It sometimes makes a bad day, better to come on here and read. Thanx again.

Roadhog 11-05-2006 04:57 AM

Hey WildK9...I don't know what to say...so I won't say much..
except...watch yer self when you go to the Vet. :P

WildK9 11-05-2006 05:13 AM

Dayum, this could be one long list. How could i forget golfhobo, Colin, Useless, marcel, packrat, and all the others. Forgive me, I might as well just say each and every member at CAD, except for a very small minority.

OH and forgive me Almighty CAD---> moderators ARE included in my list.

golfhobo 11-05-2006 05:23 AM

Well.... I WAS going to say "You're Welcome" on behalf of those who MADE your initial list(s).....

But, I see you got my check!

hey man, i see you and Rev are having an interesting "chat" on another thread, so i figured you might be a lil busy. *putting check in bank*
you definitely have some interesting and thought provoking things to say.

WildK9 11-05-2006 05:35 AM

come on Rev, i'm sure you got some interesting comment, picture or emoticon for me. :D

WildK9 11-05-2006 06:09 AM

BTW hobo, I have a golf related question fer ya! Others may have input also, being there are quite a few people from Up where its cold. (Yoopr, maybe)
My parents love to golf, and my Mom really wants to go to the Mall of America, so I've been planning a trip for them next spring. I'm looking for a golf resort or even just a great course within an hour or twos drive of the Mall. If you or anyone can help me, I'd appreciate it. If I can't find a good golf resort, I'd like to find a nice hotel where they have some sort of spa treatment, and preferably a "lazy" river. (My Dad is a sucker for those as he has a bad back) I was looking at the Owatonna Hotel. Any feedback is welcome. Thanx!

golfhobo 11-05-2006 07:08 AM

NOW you're just "sucking up!"

The REV made your FIRST list!

I wasn't REALLY offended.

I'll have some info for you soon on the golf outing. (Even tho I suspect you only asked out of a desire not to hurt my fragile little feelings.)

I started to offer you a loaded 45 as soon as I read your first post! Or maybe just a bigger SHOVEL!

Bet you won't do THAT again, "rookie!"

WildK9 11-05-2006 07:15 AM

 seriously, i have been trying to put this whole "golf" package together for them since May. I want it to be "extra" special as my Dad is VERY hard to surprise. My Mom kinda knows what I'm planning, because I do need her help to hide it from him. This man is the nicest person you could meet. he would give the shirt off his back for anyone. And he never wants to "spend" money on himself. For my Mom, yes, but not for himself. A very unselfish man. Thanx for any input.

Honestly, I felt bad for not doing a longer list, as I had been sitting in the booth at the Hook for nearly two hours, and my computer was running out of juice.

Okay, friend:

Start HERE:

http://www.visitgrandrapids.com/vaca...olf/index.html

Years ago, when I first got on the internet, I was taking Golf Digest and read an article about these 4 courses that had made their "Top 100 Courses in the Country." That led me to a forum in Grand Rapids (Minnesota NOT Michigan) where I have been posting ever since.

The "idea" was, that I would go ANYWHERE to play some good golf, so I chose the login "Golfhobo."

The rest is history. I haven't made it up there yet to play, but when I do, I'll have lots of friends to meet.

These are the ONLY courses in MN that made the "list." And they are ALL located right around this small, but interesting, town.

Grand Rapids is about 2 hours or less from Minneapolis, straight up highway 169. I suggest LATE spring, to avoid the snow. But, I highly recommend THIS experience over any other golf outing in MN.

If I were you, I'd make reservations for the Sugarbrooke Lodge (fireplaces) and leave the MALL in time to get there the evening before the first day of golfing. Get OUT of the city early and see this area of the state.

Okay.... now you OWE me!

10-4 thanx! My Dad will love it I'm sure! He's an avid golfer like you. I have been searching the net since May (unlike some of these other posters who ask before they search) and I don't remember seeing that site. Thanx again.

Interesting. I was thinkin' the same about all of you a while back, but of course, too chicken to mention it. Good posts here. Whenever I have a rough day (which has been A LOT lately) I come here to see all of my 'friends' to cheer me up! It is strange how you can come to 'know' folks you've never even met. :D Keep the laughs comin'. Meow!

About golf Courses-I THINK Michigan has more golf courses than any other state-Maybe we're #2 on that-forgot
BUT-One of the Highest rated Golf Courses in the Country(Other than the obvious) is about 20 miles south of me.

PS-Thanks-Checks in the Mail :P

WildK9 11-08-2006 12:40 PM

Yoopr, what's up?? usually you're much quicker than that

BTW-what course is 20 mi. south of ya?

yoopr 11-08-2006 12:47 PM

It's called Timberstone and it's in Iron Mountain and located in the area of Pine Mountain.
I never did a websearch on it but I think GolfDigest did a feature story on it.

Heard good things about golf in MI, Yoopr. Even had another vacation planned for the area around Holland (can't remember the name of the area.) Didn't mean to slight you, but he mentioned being in MPLS. Grand Rapids, MN is closer, I think.

As for #1 state with Golf courses.... I'm pretty sure it's South Carolina. Myrtle Beach and all. I don't know who's #2.

yoopr 11-08-2006 01:04 PM

here's a bit about Timberstone-BEAUTIFUL golf course that I haven't played :P

Timberstone is an impressive semi-private facility prominently featuring the natural rock formations of the region. The Jerry Matthews design is laid out on 310 feet of upward vertical rise, but playing it requires just a couple of uphill shots.

“ I liked the challenge of TimberStone from a design standpoint,” Matthews said. “With a site as hilly as TimberStone, the imagination has to work harder. It is very beautiful land, but you still have to make it playable to golfers to get them to the top of the hill without having it play to cumbersome.

“ Everybody likes to play downhill. But somewhere, we’ve got to get them uphill without too much challenge and strenuous activity. It worked out very well, as far as I’m concerned.”

Two man-made lakes on the property come into play on four holes.

The signature No. 17 hole is located at the top of the mountain. It is a par-3 hole that features a breath taking shot with a 110-foot vertical drop from the tips.

“ We offer four sets of tees for daily play, so it can be accommodating to golfers of all abilities, while not insulting their abilities,” head professional Suzy Fox said. “You can play all lengths, yet still have the challenge.”

Golf in the spring and fall provides spectacular color, but the scenery is serene throughout the year because of the mixture of evergreens and deciduous trees.

“ We like to call it Mother Nature’s canvass,” Fox said.

TimberStone first opened for public play in 1997, and earned Golf Digest honors as No. 3 Best New Upscale Public Course in North America. The course has been recognized by Golf Digest two other times. The No. 6 hole was given an honorable mention as one of America’s Best 18, The New Generation, and TimberStone received a 4.5 star rating among top places to play.

“ I believe it is still undiscovered,” Fox said. “The neat thing about it is that we are still moderately priced and we’re easier to get to than people are willing to admit.

“ Once they discover us, they keep coming back.”

Here is the link to my Links.
http://www.gam.org/coursefinder.asp?county=45&aid=497

I am a member of the Leland Country Club....a private course just a block from my house. I first started combing the parameter as a kid (5 years old) collecting golf balls and sitting at the first tee with a shoebox full, and selling them.

Later I became a caddy. I was 11 years old then. I was so good the old duffers would fight for me. Finally, a Scotsman, John McCrae made me his personal caddy, and this was before the advent of golf carts. He loved my skills so much, he bought me my own set of clubs...a full set of MacGregor clubs of course. Later he was the first member to buy a power golf cart. It was a Harley Davidson. He kept me and allowed me to drive it. He later ended up sponsoring me to become a member of the Club myself.
It is very difficult to become a member of this Club. This is a resort community, and has very rich people from all over.

I still walk the parameter collecting golf balls.

The course is right center where you see a hilly grassy area with trees lined in rows on the smaller lake. (Lake Leelanau)
