This is just one reason why the unions have it WAY over the regular non union drivers. The union drivers can file actual grievances with their representatives and get things done. I have no problem with running whatever route my company wants me too run. I do however have a problem with their poor business practices of under bidding the other guys based on the false mileage and times based on using the most direct route. If the company is telling drivers that they MUST use a longer route then the drivers should be getting compensated to do so.
I drive for a non-union but very decent company and when the state closed a part of the turnpike for a few months, the company automatically upped the pay for that route until the pike opened back up.
