Britton Transport Invites Public to New Headquarters

The corporate staff at Britton Transport got a change of scenery much like their drivers get every day when they moved into new headquarters in April.

Located in Grand Forks North Dakota the new $3.9 million building’s design is a near-replica to Bison’s Calgary terminal.

To celebrate their new location Britton Transport is inviting the public to an open house from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday September 6 at their headquarters at 1651 N. 48th Street Grand Forks N.D. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 4 p.m.

Britton is excited to offer a lounge and kitchen open 24 hours a day as well as shower and laundry facilities for its drivers and staff. The location also has a cross-dock for up to six trucks which helps move freight from one truck to another.

“It’s all about the drivers at Britton” said President Dave Britton. “Nothing happens without our drivers.”

Their new facility gives them room to grow as Britton said they were packed pretty tight in the old location. He wants the drivers and staff to feel like this is their home away from home which it literally is for some.

What began in the basement of Dave Britton’s house in 1980 has grown into one of North America’s largest fleets. Britton Transport started as a truck brokerage service and then a one-flatbed operation. Now it is a subsidiary of Winnipeg-based company Bison Transport and has nearly 100 trucks. Two years ago they only had 43. Britton hopes to grow to at least 200 trucks in the next five years which now includes van and refrigerator trucks in addition to flatbeds.

Britton provides transportation of cargo throughout North America including steel building materials foodstuffs livestock general commodities temperature controlled goods and machinery.

Britton still does brokerage services which accounts for about 45 percent of their business. That area is expected to grow in the next several years.

The Grand Forks Region Economic Development Corporation assisted Britton with its new headquarters and the company received additional support through the Grand Forks Growth Fund as well.

With their growth comes more job opportunities. Britton looks for drivers who have ambition and values that match their company culture even if they are lacking the driving experience.
