We hire sub contractors all over the US anywhere they are needed, we have a contract to do deliveries for XPO logistics Inc., vendors such as Home Depot.
When the Home Depot has no driver at any one location, XPO calls our company to see if we have any Class A CDL drivers available that can temporarily work at that location until XPO finds a local driver to take over the contract.
This can be from 1 week to 8 months or more at any one location.
When they are in need of drivers we supply the driver.
What we do is interview the driver, hire the driver and train the driver basic things and make sure they can drive.
We do train for Moffett/forklift certification
We then, depending on where the location is, schedule them a hotel at that location,
we get them a flight to that Home Depot that needs a class A driver.
We rent a Penske truck rental,
we insure the rental and give this to the driver to use;
sometimes it’s Home Depot leased equipment.
After that we send a trainer to train the driver for a couple of days before we let them do it on their own.
In a nutshell that is our description of our business.
Drivers we prefer to be out at least 2 months before they can go home, if they have one to go to, we realize after the first couple of years couples, or single drivers tend to do well Over the Road not so much drivers that have to have home time and if that’s important to them then they would not be a good fit for our company.
We do not sleep in the trucks as they are daycabs
we do not drive more than 150 miles radius
We do not use log books just weekly sheets
We do not micro manage the drivers
We do not tell them how to do there job they have to determine how to load their truck and how to unload the trucks
We do require a background check
Negative Drug test
It’s fmcsa drug testing requirements
Must be at least 23 year old
No accident or moving violations in the last 3 years
And we usually conduct 2 interviews before they can apply.
