I finally did it...I start CDL school on Jan 17th.....

I am fairly new to the board. After alot of thought I am going to get my CDL. I start school in Tulsa OK through Arrow transport. DH is already a driver for Arrow so we will be together in the truck after school. He will be my trainer.... :? He is a good trainer with others so I hope he is OK with me....

My biggest fear is shifting and backing up.....

I have property in Eufaula, Ok and have been trying to find a company that can send me back and forth to Central California. Any comments or ideas?

There have been two ads recently in the Oklahoma city paper for caliaforia out and back and for Arkansas to cali and back. Might go to libary and look at some back issues
And congradulations Tootie, I am going to Drumright in march for CFI if everything checks out (dot, crimanal and driving which it will)

confused

Tootie - didn't you say in another thread that you have no desire to drive? How come you are now seeking your CDL then? I have TONS of desire and it was the most difficult thing I ever did. The driving and getting it all together was the easy part. Making it through school/otr training in a man's world being a woman (a tiny woman at that) was what cleaned my clock. In corporate america I never failed or half way accomplished ANYTHING. I didn't figure this would be any different but I learned that just because I had the go get it spirit didn't mean they had the welcome spirit to match that. Hope you have a better time of it than I did though - just go in with open eyes.

At anyrate, I wish the best of luck to you and if I had ammo I would load your gun for you! Shoot 'em up, knock 'em dead and GO GET 'EM, girl!!

I may have said that....I dont know. But maybe I was talking about flatbedding alone, now that I have no desire to do. I have wanted on and off to get my CDL's...I guess it is more of a fear of failure. I am a perfectionist by nature and beat myself up if i cant do it right the first time.

I feel better know that DH is going to train me and we will team on the truck. I dont think I would want to do this alone....

Very Cool

Yeah, if my dh was going to be my trainer I would already be racking up miles. I only sit here because I am still too scared to go back to the school/trainee setting after the horrors of last time.

I didn't make the distinction between flatbedding alone and "driving" - I think you did say something like that the first time and I just misunderstood.

Let me say one more thing - the reason I had such a hard time is one of the things you mentioned - I am a perfectionist by nature as well. Just let me tell you - don't be too hard on yourself. People (men or women) aren't just "born" backing and shifting. I got it and you will get it but unlike "normal life" stuff, I wasn't the FIRST to get it. You may not be either. If you aren't, don't let that stop you. I was my own worst enemy by making it so rough on myself and being so hard on myself that I made it all a lot harder than it was. Just try to relax and take it all in as "fun" like the guys will and it will go easier. That is how I finally got it - I loosened up and realized that the back I was trying to do wasn't a corporate report that all the sales managers were going to look at and pick apart. I would back up there and then I would move and there would be no memory of the back just as soon as it was over for anyone but me. So take it all in stride and you will do just fine.
