A uk driver and cdl
 

Hi,
Im currently a class one driver here in the Uk and im looking to move to Arizona.
Could anyone tell me if i would have to complete a cdl course or could i work over there on my current license?

It is very must to complete the CDL course.

I know a "normal" UK Drivers Lic will convert, but I don't think a CDL will. Either way it shouldn't be hard to pass the written test and do a road test. The big thing for you would be the Federal Regs here. Best but would be to call the Arizona DMV and ask. You should probably contact a trucking school in AZ and look into a "refresher" course made for CDL drivers that have been off the road for a while, those will bring you up to speed here. I started my CDL journey years ago, got out of it, now going back in and starting from scratch. Amazing how much I lost.

I don't know but I do know I had a English driver once and he called to tell me that the load was "tipped" and I got nervous and asked how that happened but I guess that meant "done or over". Kings English I guess. He drove all through Europe too.

There is no statute or regulation that says you must complete a truck driving school YET to get you cdl.

Your best bet is to call the state and talk to them about the requirements. Especially since you are a foreign national and how is your visa worded. That whole work sponsor etc issue that needs to be included. If you are coming with a work sponsor, do they have a truck you can go in and take the skills test. Doing the written is the easy part.
