Decisions......Decisions, please help!!
Hi Everyone,
After reading and reading and reading and searching, I'm going to ask.... I'm ready to start school and have a few questions: 1) Why are Community College CDL -A Classes 6 weeks and Company Paid Programs/Schools only 4 weeks? Example, Covenant, Stevens, Swift, USA Truck and a few local companies have Company Sponsored Schooling here where I live that last about a month and they actually send you to the same Community College where it takes 6 weeks if you enroll by yourself and fund the school yourself? Does anyone know the answer? 2) If I choose to enroll and pay for my own school so I'm not "tied" via a contract to a company for 1-2 years, will I have a good chance of getting recruited by a company after graduation? The School "claims a 98% job placement rate"? 3) Should I choose to go to and pay for my own schooling, should I make sure that it's PTDI Certified? Thanks for any help!!! Sly |
Yes made certain the school is Certified .. otherwise you'll be wasting your time and money. Where are locatel ?? State ??
Have you called personally and spoke to Covenant, Stevens (which I've not heard good things about this company) USA Truck ... and consider CFI/Conway ...... not all companys will make you work for a year to repay them. If you go through a Recuiter you'll be expected to graduate with your CDL - - start to work for them a couple of days after you graduate and head out with a Trainer for a short period of time ... and Once you've been signed your Own tractor - - the company then goes and pays' off your school loan. ( at least that's the way Conway/CFI use to do it ) ...Then strive to be the best driver they have ... But DON'T sign on with a company that say's they'll make you pay them back - a certain amount of each paycheck ...... But your decision is going to depend on where your located - home. The company will have to be within your living area / western states, eastern, central ... all these things will play a fact in the decision. That's why I wonder if you've spoken to them in person ? .. Have them mail information that they explained to you on the phone ........... A few Recuiters will feed you a line of bull just to get you to sign on with them. Keep bringing the questions and we'll try our best to help you. |

Keep bringing the questions and we'll try our best to help you. As for me answering the OPs other 2 questions, nope, I can't. I have a particular allergy to working for big companies, companies large enough to offer their own training programs. I can't do that, I'm not wired that way. Rather than guess and give the OP bad information, I'd rather see someone that actually has the correct answers help out. It looks like neither you nor I know what the hell we're talking about here. At least I never claimed to. :) |
I know for a FACT that CFI/Conway does go through a school for training and once you recieve your Own tractor they pay your school loan off . Been There Done That with CFI ! ....... So I Do know what I'm talking about ! ..... Looks like your just trolling around to start trouble ...

Are you following me around the forum so you can just puff your chest out at me? ............. You don't bother me - I can see right through your ego. |

Too many experts here to help a newbie with their bickering. So I'll answer a question anyway. If you can afford to pay any of the tuition, then do so. Some companies will tie you up in payments if you owe them.
