Default Job placement time frame

How long did you wait to get a job as a OTR driver after graduating from trucking school?

What is the demand for student drivers who want these long haul, go anywhere, anytime trucking jobs?

I didn't wait to get a job after graduating CDL school, I went out and found one a month before I went to school. You can send of applications and recruiters usually will respond in 24 hours or less. Usually it is up to you how fast you want to start working.

Just like the previous poster, I had a job lined up before I started school. I also had four other companies lined up in order of preference with "provisional" orientations scheduled in case my first choice crapped the bed.

Everything worked out fine. I finished class Friday morning at HCC (after the night drive that I ended up driving the majority of because the other guys couldn't hack it). Sunday morning I was on a bus for Tulsa for Arrow's orientation.

Just like anything else in life, you must be proactive. Find out which companies you like, and start in on them before you are done with school. The good companies don't need drivers as much as the crappy ones. Call, e-mail, write. Hassle them.

You can not wait for a good company to call you. You can not wait for a job. Time is money. Trucks don't make money unless the wheels are turning, and therefore you won't make money unless those wheels are turning. Every day you spend searching for a job after you are out of school is a day of lost revenue.

Anyone who gets out of a CDL school without a job waiting for them is wasting their time.

-p.

If it is a quality school, they should pretty much be able to find you work before you take the road test.

Of course, that depends on your drivers abstract, your work ethic, and your desire to work.
