Are you talking about the landing gear crank handle?
|
I haven't had the landing gear crank, kick back on me... but :) back in aboot '74, eh...
I had a '64 Triumph Bonniville 650 kickstarter coff and kick back, driving my knee into the handlebar! I can remember the pain to this day. :roll3: |

Unfortunately the landing gear handle does kick back, I have proof of this like a 3" scar on the side of my head. It happened back when I was a rookie, like the op. Someone had left the heavily loaded trailer high on its landing gear. Therefore I had to lower it in order to hook. Then the crank just went spinning, as I was trying to lover the trailer. The trailer ended on my fifth wheel, thank my lucky stars. But I was also seeing stars as well as a light show. As the only one in the yard at the time, I decided I was fine and left the yard with the trailer. Dont remember most of the drive, until I fell out of the tractor at one of our nearby terminals. Not a fun night.
So it can happen, moral of the story is keep your head out of the way while lowering a trailer. |

:banghead |
:)
The hand crank starter, is the recommended way of starting a Tiger in cold weather conditions, it also has an electric starter. The hand crank turns a heavy flywheel at the rear of the engine, when it reaches a high rotation speed, a pin is pushed or pulled, this connects the spinning flywheel to the crank shaft, which spins up the Pistons thus starting the engine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROnb5ouBjNc |
