Power inverters
 

I have an older Cobra 1500 Watt inverter sitting in storage. The last time it was hooked up was probably 3-4 years ago. At the time, it worked perfect. I'm just worried about hooking it back up simply because of the sitting thing.

So, I'm more than likely going to be replacing it. What I'm wondering is how the Cobra's and RoadPro's compare in quality. I'll definitely get at least a 1500 watt, and may possibly upgrade to a 2500.

The only thing I'll run on it is my laptop and printer, microwave, coffeemaker, and various low wattage chargers, such as for the ipad, sweeper, etc.

Before everyone starts in about getting a pure sine-wave inverter that costs 3 paychecks, I'm not even considering going there. I run the electronics through an APC battery backup, and that cleans up the electric nicely. I've used that setup for MANY years without so much as a hiccup in the electronics. So, let's just stick with the affordable inverters.

It was probably me that tried pushing you towards a pure sine-wave inverter. That's how I do it. Sorry.

Now let me try to save you some money (if it's not too late), instead of spending your money. I'd pop the cover off that inverter and inspect it for oxidation and give the internals a good shot of compressed air and put it back in service. It's all just transistors and heat sinks and dumb stuff like that. Dust built up on transistors can make them overheat but once you clean them they're good for another good long time.

I might try that. Like I said, it was working fine when Ipulled it from the truck, but that was almost 3 years ago. At that time, it was probably 5-6 years old already.

i wouldn't think sitting would affect an electrical device?

My 1500 husky works well and has sat for long periods of time, then put into operation, then sat etc.
