Anybody Using A Kindle?
Anybody buy a Kindle yet. I'm curious if one would survive in a truck or are they too fragile?

And exactly what is a Kindle?

Kindle is an electronic reader, a new way to carry and read books: http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Amazons.../dp/B000FI73MA |
Thanks! Pretty cool. I think it would work fine in a truck. I mean I use my laptop everyday for all my navigation and for cruising the Internet on a daily basis.
I also like the fact that you can buy best sellers for $9.99, but I think I'll wait a while to see if the price comes down. Nevertheless, they should also come up with a service for laptops, where we could download those best sellers for $9.99 as well. |
Kindles Fragile?

But if you want to be sure, put a folded towel or something else cushy under the Kindle when it's put away. That will help absorb the vibrations from driving. should also help keep it from slipping around. Personally, I'll take a print book any time! Libraries are a much underused resource. |

I agree I would rather have a book. What I really want a Kindle for is to be able to subscribe to a newspaper and download it each day. I figure the cost savings on the electronic subscription vs single copy prices would pay for the Kindle in as little as 18 months. I wouldn't have to dispose of all the leftover paper and I wouldn't be going on walking tours of strange places every day trying to find a paper machine that still has some left and won't eat my money. I would also be able to read my paper(s) of choice every day from anywhere in the country.
I'm almost ready to spring for it. |
But with a laptop (and WiFi) you can get any newspaper in the world for free--and everything else the Internet offers, including book and audio-book downloads. Although Kindle books are cheaper than other book downloads. And Kindles cost less than laptops.

And the Kindle presents the paper in its regular format, as opposed to having to surf around a website to get all the stories. And with the Kindle I can download the days paper while I'm around civilization, then read it sitting out in the redwoods while I'm taking a break. I'm really trying to talk myself in to this........... |

Never heard of Kindle and it sounds pretty neat, so I went to amazon to read about them. If anyone has a new ipod or iphone you can pay .99 cents to downlaod the kindle reader here. Hopefully you can save a few buck :-) If not splurge and enjoy it since it pays for itself. Ebay has varying prices on them as well.Amazon Kindle: items on eBay.com |
Put a trucker duty cover or skin on the thing and it should be good to go! They can fit inside your travel bag with no troubles, just be careful not to toss your bag around to much.
