Depends on what you are going to do with it somewhat. If you are an overclocker, then AMD. I overclock the holy-crap out of those processors. Intel doesn't overclock so well. Also, AMD is usually cheaper for the same relative speeds. There is a fantastic chart and comparison page at the following link: http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_2007.html Please note that there are several ways to view the charts and on some of them LOWER is BETTER and on others HIGHER is BETTER. So look at the bottom of each chart to see which is better. It will clearly show you the performance of both Intel and AMD.

Just as important when building your own system is the motherboard, the memory, and the video card. You have to do your homework on all of the hardware before deciding on a build (not just the processor.)

Get a dual-core or quad-core, whichever brand you decide on.

Happy building. Let us geeks know what you came up with as a configuration.

I've been an AMD user for, hmmm, probably the last 9 years or so. My last Intel cpu was a P3-500mhz slot-1 processor. I've been really happy with every AMD I've used.

Definitely go with at least a dual-core cpu.

thnks guys....I was leaning toward AMD because their chip sets work with the
utility software I have that monitors critical things like cpu temperature and can shut down the system before damage occurs--- the intel chipsets don't send smart data like that.

Not sure about the duel core-- I do a lot of video editing, aftereffects, and lightwave, Maya 3D rendering..... I really need SPEED much more than multi-tasking( duel core main design advantage) None of the very expensive(yet ware-z) software i use is designed for duel core chipsets.

Mainly I'll just go out and buy a desktop--and "overhaul" the problem areas that need to be addressed in Mobile application-----cooling, and the harddrives.
I'll use 2.5 laptop drives & get a liquid cooling system.

where's those links to that mini keyboard and the touch screens? anyone remember that thread?

That was me who had the keyboard and touchscreen.

I don't have the exact pages, but I got the keyboard from www.tigerdirect.com and the touchscreen from www.mp3car.com

If you can, I would go with an 8" monitor. I have the 7" and it's great, but it's just a tad too small. In fact, when I replace my 7", I may go with a 10" monitor.

Edit:

Ok, I got bored and dug up some links for ya.

mp3car.com touchscreens: http://store.mp3car.com/Monitors_and...reens_s/21.htm

This is the touchscreen I have, except mine is the 2007 model:
http://store.mp3car.com/Xenarc_700TSV_p/mon-004.htm

This is the touchscreen I recommend. I had the previous model and loved it. However, I made a stupid mistake and fried the circuit board (all my fault):

usb keyboard with touchpad:

usb keyboard with touchpad (this is the one I have):
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...2243&CatId=533

wireless keyboard with touchpad (I should've got this one):

crap-- I ran into a snag-- there's a CCTV PCI card I want to install in my Truck PC I'm building---allows you to wire up to 16 CCTV/ Day/Night cameras and record-- everything going on around the truck-- even stream the video live feed(if you got the bandwidth)-

problem is--- the software and drivers support Intel ONLY.
