compressor issue?
 

Ive been noticing when my compressor starts running it reminds me of an old shop compressor with the noise it makes. Its on a 350 b/c cummins. This is something i should be worried about. It aint the first time i heard one make noises like that. It supplies air fine just the noise has got me concerned

If it's a single cylinder comp. it could just be out of time. If that's the problem I don't think it will hurt it, it just makes noise. To time it the comp. has to be removed and timing marks aligned. If you decide to time it, let me know and I can tell you how.

I went and bought a new compressor and gears. I definitely need help with the timing set up and the what not to do's. Any help would be greatly appreciated !! If it just ends up being just a timing issue i guess ill just have a spare. Expensive lesson learned Thanks, Willie

This is straight from a Cummins manual:1."Rotate crankshaft until the "A" valve set mark on the accessory drive pulley is aligned with the pointer on the gear cover. 2. Hold the air compressor so that you are looking at the coupling end of its crankshaft. Rotate the compressor crankshaft until the keyway or timing mark is positioned half-way between 9 o'clock and 10 o'clock. 3. Install the splined coupling to the air compressor crankshaft. 4. Install the air compressor and a new gasket to the accessory drive. Tighten the capscrews to 40 to 45 ft. lbs." ........ I hope this helps. Failure in epic proportions. That bolt in the back kicked my rear end and was unable to get it out. Cummins really designed that to be user friendly lol
