please explain for me and friends what in your country you mean by glider trucks re the fitting of older motors, also cab card what it for how much and why you need it thanks

Glider is the term for a frame, body and cab sold as a kit. There is no powertrain (ie..engine, transmission, drive axles etc). You take the drivetrain from your wrecked truck and place it on this new frame and body. Some people buy a glider kit with drive axles, and then also purchase the engine and transmission they desire that would not otherwise be available in that make or year model of truck body. Anyone feel free to chime in if I left something out.

I'll add that it is sold as a part, so there is NO financing, pretty much an "over the counter" sale, it is also registered as the year it was built, and has a "G" after the serial number that identifies it as a glider so it can't be passed of as a new truck.

The cab-card is the truck registration, price is based on what state issues it and how many miles and how many states you want to operate in.

thanks you two that cleared it up havnt heard of such sales over here sum might be caught out with odd american import i guess ,our heavy truck rego (your cab card )is $nz 648 trailer is $nz184 have hubometer on both units which we pay mileage on ,in advance

I'm a company driver, so I've never had to do this myself, but I think our base plates are estimated on the first year, then after that, you are paying on the miles you run in each state from the previous year.
Base plate costs vary from state to state. Also, it goes by how many states you operate in, and how much weight.

If I ran just in Michigan, (80,000 lbs.) my base plates might run $475.
If I ran the lower 48 states, probably around $1850. Add Ontario for another $75.

Fees can go over $3000 for some trucks to run 48 states, depending on where you base out of.

I just found them today before reading this post. I am very interested in getting one. I talked to them twice today and I thought of some more questions this evening I want to ask. 3 year 300,000 mile national warranty on engine and tranny. 5 year 750,000 miles on rears. They are using the same engine that I was getting 10 mpg pulling an empty trailer and 12 mpg bobtail. I averaged over 7 mpg the last 2 years I had that truck and that included idling most nights winter and summer. I will admit it could swing the other way if you pushed it hard enough. Running 80 mph from Nebraska to Nevada pushing a HARD headwind with a real windcatching load I got a little over 4 mpg. It was a hot load that had to get there.

Glider has no engine and only rolls downhill......

There IS financing available on glider trucks, just as there is for anything that is sold. Fitzgerald has lined up financing options for their glider trucks. Of course, one could arrainge their own financing options.
