How much should I expect to pay to replace the kingpins in my '97 Volvo?

Just got mine done at a Pete dealership for $950 plus taxes. It took them around 8 hours to do both sides. A local spring shop wanted $1200. It might be cheaper where you live though I'm in Ontario. Made my ride a lot quieter/better.

I recently put kingpins in my KW and paid less than $600. I bought the parts and found a local mechanic that is reasonable.

I did mine myself. All I had to buy was a big pickle fork, and the new pin kits of course. Got the brass bushings which need to be reamed out so carried the spindles with new bushings installed and had my friendly local frame/axle/alignment shop give me a good ream job for a few bucks.
I cleaned and repainted the whole spindle/brake assemblies to boot. And I know my wheels ain't gonna fall off.

It would kill me to pay over a grand for someone else to do that job.

I checked my invoices and I paid $191 for the kingpins and I believe about $250 for labor. There is a new type of kingpin that doesn't need to be machined. According to a couple of people to whom I spoke they last as long as those that need to be reamed. That reminds me. I need to get my truck aligned.

Was this the ream job from the lizard?

I have those with around 500K on them, the bushings are stainless steel, I believe they were made by Kysor, they were around $200.00 for the set and I put them in.
