You should be able to get maximum grade coax at any Radio Shack. Thats what they went into business for as a Radio Shack is slang for the place a person has his Ham Radio set up. It sounds more like a grounding problem to me although the coax won't hurt.

Yeah, as jonp said, it sounds like a ground problem on the radio. You could try a temporary pair of wires directly to the battery and see if that fixes the problem. I would recommend at least 14 guage wire and a fuse at the battery end. Be careful not to pinch the wires in a door or something. They could short and start a fire if you don't fuse the wire.

ok thanks! if its a ground how do i fix that???

You can follow the ground terminal of the batteries to see where it attaches to the frame. See if there is rust there, if the strap is frayed or loose or whatever. You can add a second grounding strap yourself and attach it to a different place. BE CAREFUL DOING THIS! The voltage from a truck will melt your shoes. Always remove the positive line to prevent any problems.
If you have a truck that has the pos/neg studs on the dash you can run a ground from there yourself and attach it to any bolt on the truck that has bare metal. |
