My lights dont work!!

My international 9200 rear tail lights dont work when I trun on the runnings lights. They work when I use the turn signals and brake, it just doesnt light up when the running lights are on. And its just the rear lights, the rest of the lights up front work fine. Anyone have any ideas???? Thanks

I don't want to say this but I have to, did you check the bulbs ? The stop, turn, tail bulbs have 2 filaments and could have blown the tail light portion at the same time. I have this happen as well as both headlights going out at the same time. I called the company and took it into the Petro thinking something was wrong and it turned out to just need 2 bulbs at once. If the rest of the parking lights work you'd probably have to rule out the switch and breakers/fuses and concentrate on the wiring going to the rear lights. Go along the wiring harness and check for anything unusual. Make sure if there are plugs along the way they are secured together properly. Another thing to check is the light sockets for any corrosion. :) :)

Yeah, I just checked the bulbs and everything and it seems fine as far as I can tell. I have a feeling no power is getting down there. But it weird because everything else is getting power. Thanks for the quick response:)

I would try another cable from the truck to the trailer. Maybe you can borrow one from the shop or another driver just for a test.

Unless the running light filaments in the bulbs in all taillights have seen fit to take a dump simultaneously, there is a problem in the in the wiring of the running light/taillight circuit somewhere between the switch and the taillights.

The turn signals/stoplights are a separate circuit, the only thing the turn signals/stoplights have in common with the running light/taillights is the ground circuit, but evidently the ground is working just fine, or you wouldn't have turn signals or stoplights either.

I had a simular problem on a company truck and trailer. After hours of pulling my hair trying to figure it out, I called into the company shop and they stated that it sounded like the relay switch was bad and for me to go ahead and replace it. Well I got to thinking about it and although I am no mechanic, the relay just didn't sound like the issue. :? I kept leaning towards a bad pigtail or a short. So i tried a different pigtail from another driver and it did no good, therefore it must be a short. I started tracing the wires from the back forward and right there at the midway point I found a frayed wire. Put some electrical tape and...........wala, lights worked perfect. :)

tail light on tractor or trailer?

pop the light out from the rubber gasket- disconnect- take your continuity tester and clip the wire to the neg- and touch the prob to the +---see if you're getting juice back there-

if so, simply replace the light.

if this is trailer- now go check the pig-tail and pig tail plug-in

sometimes you need to take a thin straight screwdriver and pry the prongs apart on the male contacts inside your junction box- first try wiggling the pig tail and see if any other lights short out- flicker.

sometimes if you run bob-tail or drop your pig-tail in the snow- it will get dirty/ salt/grime will get in there and cause problems with your connection.
