Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer
Does anybody out there use this. Buddy of mine swears by it.
I have a high milage DD, leaks a little, burns a little towards the end of oil change, ok oil pressure. Just wondering if this might help my engine out. I know a motor is electric and a engine is gas or diesel etc but it is weird to put engine instead of motor in the above sentence.LOL |
I have a 2004 truck and I use the Lucas Oil stabilizer each time I service the truck. I replace 20% of the oil capacity with the Lucas thing. I think it's a very simple way to: extend oil change periods; prolong the life of your engine; improve fuel mileage. I can't provide any specific number of any gains I had myself but especially for higher mileage engines this stabilizer is a blessing.

Buddy of mine swears by it. He might NOT after you show him this link http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/images/lucas/lucas.htm |
When I was working in auto parts, we got in a bunch of Lucas products. I put the lucas gear display in our freezer. The following morning, I took it out and turn the gears. The gear oil climbed to the top, but the Lucas did not. It was too thick to get past the 3rd gear.
I was looking at the placemats on the counter, when I realized there wasn't a pic of a snowmobile on it. Every other vehicle was there, except the snowmobile......figures  No lucas for me. |
i cannot say lucas oil stabilizer is helpful. i will say that i have put in 2 gal at every oil change every 12,000 miles. i have a 11.1 det & have been driving the same truck for over 8 years & hit over a mil miles a few months ago. the engine has never been into. still going strong. my driver friend has had 2 trucks within the last 10 years. both 470 det & both had to have the gear train repladed. bull gear & crank gear broke. he never used lucas. lucas cost me $ 20.00 a gal but replaces a $9.00 gal of oil costing me $11.00 a gal for the lucas. after almost 9 years off using it, i cannot honestly say if it does any good. i can assume that it dont hurt. at least not my engine anyway. if it did... i dont know how i got over a mil miles while using it.

i'll agree with that. with me i think it's more pshycological.. lol. since ive had no problems i want to continue doing what i have been. people have told me whatever you have been doing just keep doing it. i also have the original trans with no work done ever to it. truck still has original clutch. how after a mil miles i dont know? so i just keep doing what i do to it wich is change fluid every 6 months reguardless. is this hepfull or wise ? i dont know but same as using the lucas, it appears not to hurt and as soon as i change procedures.. if something happens. i'll say .. i knew i should of kept up my routine.. lol. i realize it may be a waste of money, but there are other things to waste money on & since i dont smke or drink wich cost much more than lucas, i'll choose to waste money on lucas. i wish there were more info than bobs the oil guy analysts.. |
My buddy that uses Lucas all the time say he has to put the new jug in a pan of warm water for awhile to get it thin enough to pour into the motor.
Once it is in the motor will it thicken the oil to a point of hard starting in cold weather? And will the oil be thick enough that oil will not get in the right places quick enough on a cold start? I think I am going to try a gallon. Sometime I think my 994,000 mile Series 60 needs more that a tap on the fender saying good girl when I get home and put the truck in the barn LOL Forrest Lucas is a rich man & I always wonder if all his products are just snake oil and there are millions of people buying it thinking that it is good stuff because of all the advertisements or are they good products. I use the Lucas 5th wheel lube, that I know is good stuff. I have looked at the Bobtheoilguy site a few times and I just wonder if he is spinning the gears faster than they would be spinning in a differential or trans or faster than crank and rods are spinning |
i keep the lucas in my home. so when ready to pour it's not as slow. ive always had beeter oil pressure with it in. never any prob with cold starting. one thing a realize(and i may be wrong) is we have come a long way as far as inprovments in every way of our lives. some will say that trucks cannot get better mileage or get better lubrication. e.t.c. but i bet when cars got 8-10 m.p.g back in the 70's & people speculated that one day we'll have cars going twice as fast & getting 20 m.p.g. i'm sure they were told it wont happen cant happen. we have seen so much of our lives inproved with tecnology & other ways that our ancestors would have never beleived. there are also a lot of a scammers out there too. i have filled my fuel filter with lucas injector cleaner & added the rest to the tanks & noticed a definate difference in starting. though i'm still on the fence on weather the stabilizer is as good as claimed. aslo if i remember in the video on bob the oil guy he uses synthetic oil in demonstration. well i dont use synthetic oil. dont know if it's makes a difference. also i dont know what he is using. i have no proof .he could be using wesson oil for all i know.lol. i just know what he says he is adding.. no way to verify what he says is true. though i dont doubt him either. i just dont know.

I posted the Lucas link just to make people think thats all, personally I think that the major oil companies have a much larger budget for testing than Lucas does, and I use Lucas 5th wheel lube also, very good stuff.
I do not use any oil additives, never have, ALL my trucks have gone over 1 million without overhauls or additives What you say about the MPG in cars is very true, BUT trucks were getting in the 5's when I started driving them in 1971, not much has improved with them at all, pretty sad wouldn't you say? |
I thought Lucas was what you turn to after you've gone beyond the point where you should have replaced the rings, mains and inserts, and valves.
But want to get just a few more miles out of 'er. |
