Starting Problem
I drive an 05' Volvo 670, I am having starting problems the last 3 nights. It will start up all day when im on my break fine. But seems like when I get done driving like 200-300 miles and meet my relay. It will not start, lights come on and everything but when I turn the key nothing... No click of the starter. But if i wait like 30 mins after it cools down, it will start right up and no more problems. I have taken it to T/A and they couldn't do anything because it was not acting up. And my company garage said it would be 3 days till they can get me out... I think it is going to be the solenoid on the starter but im not a mechanic. Just wondering if anyone knows what this could be? thanks!

I had the same problem with my 1997 International 9200. Eventually I found a bad battery cable end was my problem. Replaced the 6 foot battery cable and have had no problem since.

starting problem
i had an old chevy that did the same thing
and put a heat sheild on the solenoid to fix it but a week later the problem returned turned out i had a heat problem on my cable connector i had corrosion under the battery cable clamp where the 8 guage wire was clamped to the replacement battery terminal clamp i took it apart and soaked it in baking soda for 2 hours rinsed it and problem was solved the so called profesional mechanic swore up and down i had a bad starter when battery cables get hot they have higher resistance to current flow they get hot because of the alternator charging them as you drive corrosion at the terminal clamp will cause enough resistance to stop your starter from turning over especially if your 05 rig has batteries that are over a year old and you have a lot of accesories or a 1000 watt or more power converter |
Bad ground, most likely on a battery cable
Clean all your grounds thoroughly and that should fix it 8) |

when it doesn't start...... can you hear ANY clicking under the hood when the key is turned to the crank position? |
Hello there I appreciate the replys. I will have to check out the grounds. And No there is no clicking when I turn the key over when it happens. That is why I was thinking not the starter but not sure. yeah it definitly seems to be a heat issue.

I'm going in the real obvious direction here, are you pulling the key all the way back to "off"?
Volvos have starter protection. You need to go back to off before attempting to start it again. |

Volvos have starter protection. You need to go back to off before attempting to start it again. if the starter has overcrank protection, bypass the thermostatic switch in the end of the starter motor housing |
Some volvos have overcrank protection too, was my next guess.
