Dragging brakes

Hello,

I have a 2000 IHC 4900 dump truck. Recently, it feels like the brakes are gripping even when the emergency brakes are off. When I take the emergency brakes off and put the truck in neutral, it doesn't move. And when I start to take off the truck kind of lugs. What could be the problem? I would like to hear your opinions. Thanks.

Drive for a while, and coast to a stop. Don't touch your brakes, not even once.

Touch every drum, they should be cold. If not, you've found your problem.

Thanks for your quick reply. I believe the problem is with the brakes but what is causing the brakes to drag.

Could be a host of things. Foundation brake problems, not enough air releasing the spring on the brake chamber, faulty relay valve, not enough air in the whole system, brakes not adjusting correctly.

If you do what I said, you'll know if it's one brake or all brakes dragging. We can go from there.

We just had this problem come up on a 2005. All we had to do is spray the hinge pin with WD 40. It was starting to stick when you pushed the brake pedal down.

what is the length of the pushrod stroke at each wheel-end? i.e - how far does the brake chamber pushrod move out of the chamber when you press down on the service (foot) brake

Some dump trucks have the trolley valve / johnson bar / hand control valve hooked up to actuate the brakes on the truck's drive axles.

Someone didn't inadvertently pull that handle slightly down, did they? :?:
