fuel level different on my tanks?????
recently my right tank has been lower than the left tank...
i know that the right tank is the one that feeds to the engine.... today my right tank is almost empty and my left side has a half tank left... good thing i checked my fuel tanks otherwise i'm stuck on the side of the road...(note: my fuel gauge hasn't been working for a while..) how about it "bob h" you think you could help me on this one???? |
check to make sure that there isnt a shut off valve on the bottom of the tank. If there is and it is open then the cross over line may be plugged

Just got my truck back last week from the shop. I brought it in for this same problem.
Check these two things. I bet one of them (if not both) is the problem. 1. The breather hoses. Apparently, they were cut straight off at the factory. The shop cut them at a 45 degree angle. Apparently, this keeps the hoses from getting plugged. If the tank can't breathe, it cant deliver fuel (a suction occurs). 2. The return valve. The engine doesn't use all the fuel that the fuel pump sends. The remainder is sent back to the tanks via a return valve (which is supposed to send it equally back to both tanks). If the return valve is bad, it might only send fuel to one of the tanks, causing the other to go dry. |

hope this helps as a starting point yeah there is a shut off valve, but it's wide open... if the cross over line is plugged, how could it get plugged??? more than likely the plumbing has blockage somewhere.... is there any simple way of troubleshooting??? |

the crossover line on a one of the trucks that i had been assigned to had hit something at one time and pinched the line not bad enought to stop the fuel from transfering over untill some sediment had gotten into the the tanks from fueling and plugged the line
Rev had some good things to check didnt even think about them |

well guys, i found out the problem...
some how something plugged the shut off valve from the left tank.... to start with something simple i just twist it off and on a couple of times then the fuel started to flow again to the right tank... something must have blocked the passage??? thanks for the ideas... |
I've heard that you are supposed to drain and flush the tanks once in a while but I don't think most folks bother?
