Lifting Mud Flaps

I saw a new toy on a truck the other day and I just gotta have it.

It was on the mudflap and looked like a cable going to the bottom of it and an assembly at the top that pulled the cable in thus lifting the flap. These lifted up when he shifted into reverse.

Problem is, after countless hours searching the web I have been unable to locate them. Anybody here know what I am talking about? Direct me to a website or vendor?

You can find descriptions of several versions for lifting/retracting mud flaps here. Unfortunately, these links don't say a word about who sells the systems.

yoopr 10-12-2006 02:56 AM

Never saw them-Maybe he has 2 Ropes going down both sides of the Trailer and when he has to back up all he does is pull on them :P

 Thanks yooper, once again you show why you are such a valuable asset to this board.

But I do have to admit, it's the best idea I have heard yet!

TK THE TRUCKER 11-25-2006 06:40 PM

That would be sweet for going in the landfill. Mine just got ripped off the ohter day, again :D :D

west_coaster 11-25-2006 08:28 PM

I used to drive an Int'l dump truck that had an air-actuated mud-flap lift system on it. I used the heck out of that system. Probably saved me a lot in mud flap repair $! It was great for backing up to and exsiting pile and dumping.

Just got some info in the mail about these..

Regular set up with air control switch=1 set $315/ multiple sets $295 each.

They sell an automatic upgrade that has solenoids and all kinds of fancy stuff that can break for $85

For me, it will be the simple air switch in the cab.

Mackman, if you fill out that contact form on the website they send you a nice pamplet.

I'll let ya'll know how they work out before too long.

Mackman 11-27-2006 10:21 PM

I might get them for my dad for x-mas hes getting old 54 getting out and lifting the flaps is getting hard for him.

Mackman 12-22-2006 10:46 PM

Hey maryland you ever get them flaps??? :?: :?: :?: :?:

marylandkw 12-22-2006 11:20 PM

Yeah, they look great, just waiting to put them on my new truck and I don't pick that up until next week sometime.

Mackman 12-22-2006 11:22 PM

well hurry it up i want to hear how they work out for ya

marylandkw 12-23-2006 01:57 AM

Trust me I am ready to put them on as well. Took one off today on a blasted curb. Just can't see putting it on the truck I am trading in next week. But the new one is in, got to see it, but they have to fix a few things before I sign on the dotted line.

Mackman 12-23-2006 06:10 AM

I just don't know how they will work backing into pavers. My oldman hauls alot of blacktop and seeing that the flap goes out words i dont know if they will work that good. All the guys i see who haul blacktop put the flaps inwards.

marylandkw 12-23-2006 03:35 PM

I have always hung my backwards, they do collect some asphalt so on the new truck I had the flaps mounted farther back so I can hang them forward. I am going to mount the lifter on the bottom of the bed behind my taillight brackets as to pull the flap forwards and up.

Mackman check your PM.

Went to Google-image and entered "truck mud flap saver" and nothing that you describe came up. I'd speculate he tied a cable to a series of pulleys, then manually pulled a cable to lift the mudflaps before putting the tranny in reverse. You can easily do it yourself IF you're mechanically inclined.

Hey Marylandkw... I'm in Maryland and just started a dump truck company and could use your knowledge with asphalt and dump trucks in general. I have a contract. Please contact me asap. Jmaljack7...gmail
