Default Price for rebuilding 12.7 Seires 60

I was wondering what you all would say is a fair price for rebuilding a Seires 60 Detroit?

The two prices we have got are $15,000 from Costal Diesel and $31,000 from a Freightliner dealer.

31000 sounds more like an exchange rebuilt

A StepUp1 is near 8k. Mine is getting done now under warranty, and the service guy threw that number out there.

I would expect somewhere between $10-15,000.

I just got some prices from a few places for my 11.1 complete engine swap/inframe hope this helps.
Detriot Diesel (Tampa) $18,000 to $24,000 3 year 300,000 mile warranty
SunState International (Tampa) $12,000 for an inframe with bull gear w/o turbo and compressor
Arizona Transmission $13,500 complete swap with a dyno tested engine 1 year unlimited mile warranty

I'm getting a heavy virbration at idle and too much engine noise while pulling a load, they all say bullgear so that probably what I'll have done, and head gasket because it seeps oil.

I work for a large furniture carrier here in Thomasville NC in their owner operator shop which also does outside work as their parts man. We do about one detroit every other month it seems like.

This ain't no plug for them but what we charge............

We charge roughly $10,000 for a rebuild including labor for a standard in frame with OE parts. This doesn't include the bull gear, just six cylinder packs, bearings and head, etc.

We only charge 10% on parts and $60 an hour for labor.

Keep in mind that Detroit heads are a major problem as of late with quite a few failures due to "short cuts" taken in the reman process. Might consider a good machine shop to reman your old head.

An increase to the cost is replacing your bull gear. Detroit recommends doing it at 750,000 miles and saving a bucks could cost you your new in frame if you don't replace it.

Hope this helps...
