Default Oil Analysis

This is from my first oil analysis. I have a 2005 Freightliner with 338,000 miles when this was done. Detroit motor. It was 15,000 since last oil change and I don't know what kind of oil was put in. I don't really know what this stuff means except from reading Alan5oh's post. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

Post on www.bobistheoilguy.com

Are you SURE it was changined 15,000 miles ago? Did the dealer tell you this? From these #'s, he either put in some weird oil or it was run very long.

The viscosity is unusually low, and the calcium seems to be low too. It's possible they did NOT put in a regular 15w40! Iron seems a bit high. Everything else looks good.

Do a sample next time, and compare to this sample.

Thanks Allan, I was hoping you'd reply. As far as the 15,000 miles, that was when I picked it up and the oil was extremely clean. Besides they told me they changed all of that. It's a Freightliner dealer so I'm not sure what they would have put in there.

I'm not sure what you meant about it being run very long? If it was run a long time wouldn't the oil have not been so clean?

Thanks again and I will post it on that site.

But I guess I should give you the good news:

1) Your injectors are working great

2) Your UOA indicates absolutely no coolant leak, not even a slow one(would show up negative glycol, but some potassium).

I suspect that the dealer topped off your oil instead of doing a change. Its not uncommon for them to throw new filters on and do just that.
Calcium is usually an additive that dissipates after time, and iron seems a bit high, by the dealer putting in a different oil than 15-40 would certainly screw with the viscosity and account for the reading on that.
Do what Allan said and compare to the next one.
Overall it looked good,..no real heavy bearing wear, glycol reading was great, and no extra fuel mixed in,...just keep an eye on the next one,...you should see changes in the questionable readings.
