Which is the lessor of 2 evils
 

Ok, I've got approx 1 yr experience (3 months within the past 3 years). I'm currently driving for a 'small' company of about 20 trucks. I'm looking at going to a different company for a couple of reasons:

1) Pay - I currently get paid 25% of the load, nothing for deadhead, nothing for detention, nothing for layover, etc.

2) Benefits - I have hospitalization insurance (and the plan has a lot to be desired), and that's it.

3) Equipment - I'd really like to drive something that was at least made in this century, and has under 1,000,000 miles on it (my truck is a 1995 with 1,040,500 miles, plus has been in a rollover and a jackknife, both repaired).

So, I'm looking at companies that i can get either a dedicated or regional run in. Both Swift & USXpress have dedicated runs available to me, if I wait until I have 6 months recent time.

Swift is offering me $0.34 per mile, $100 per unload, $25 per stop on their dedicated, and guaranteed home on the weekends.

USXpress is offering a similar package, but $0.32 per mile. However, I do like the idea of the automatic trucks.

I'd really like to go with Celadon, running a midwest or southeast region, however, they want 1yr recent. So I have to wait for them.

Suggestions for other companies would be appreciated. I live in northern West Virginia, and would like to run midwest or southeast. Hometime is VERY important.

my opinon might not matter I only like to run the 11 western states. nothing east of denver. Best bet for you is to take the one with the best bennies and pay. then stick it out for a year.

Crete Carrier has a couple of different regionals and depnding on the over the road that we can verify, will determine your rate of pay.

I live in north-central west virginia, approx 80 miles south of pittsburgh, approx 5 miles from I-79.

I got my training/cdl in 2000, and drove otr flatbed for about 3 months. Then I did local driving (straight truck) for probably 1 to 1 1/2 yrs. I've been back on the road now for about 3 months, pulling a dry-van.

Oh - and just so everyone's clear, the automatics in USXpress is a big selling point. Why wear out my leg sitting in traffic when I don't need to.

Well I voted for the lesser of 2 evils SWIFT :P Neither being a choice for me if I ever went back to OTR.
