Averitt Express
Hmm... thinking about averitt but I haven't found much info on them, matter of fact there is suspiciously little on the web, everything I find is from 2007 or older. I know about the uniforms and clean shaven and no visible Tattoos but what about treating drivers ok, and getting miles. recruiter said company avg was 2100 miles per week with weekly home time. that average sounds weak to me but acceptable if they actually give them. Just don't know if this is an honest recruiter ;) or a bad lie... any first or second hand info would be appreciated.

If you happen to see any of their drivers at a truck stop or whatnot, ask them. I haven't heard much about them either.

I'm not sure if you plan on getting on with their line-haul/LTL division or their truckload div. I was with them for 45 days back in 2008 supposedly as a "truckload div." driver. At the time their truckload freight base was pretty weak, and what ended up happening (at least once a week) ... you'd MT at 9:00AM with a full day clock available, no load ... at noon, they'd say wait for an LTL relay to arrive Jackson, MS at 21:00, needs to be in San Antonio B4 05:30. So you'd do this and end up with another wasted day trying to reset your clock and to hopefully get your log schedule on normal "truckload" (day) time ... only to run a day or two, then do the LTL overnight transition again a few days later. It was hard on your circadian rhthym and on the pay-check, not to mention trying to sleep in a hot sleeper 10 hours during the August days waiting on relay to arrive.
this was the "norm" at that time according to other truckload drivers. Not sure if this is still going on, but if it is, it will make for a miserable and frustrating driving job. |
Thanks for the input, I decided to pass on them, just didn't seem like they had freight and several other people had the same sort of experience you did rkeck, this coupled with their uniform and appearance requirement made me think... why would I go with you when so many other companies are looking for experienced drivers. It's one thing to have a strict appearance policy, it's a whole other thing not to have miles or freight...

I was in the hiring process until today...I had applied for a regional position out of St. Louis and all was going fine.Today I was told Land-Air in Greenville,Tn.has it on my D.A.C. report that I was discharged due to company policy violation...I was on the dedicated Goodies account and saw the writing on the wall when Goodies started to go under and quit after only working for them a month...I was reading online of MANY Land-Air (present and past) drivers and owner/operator complaints about the company,it's policies, and treatment of drivers...Stay away from Land-Air....Most Averitt drivers I had talked to had no complaints or just minor stuff....
