does anyone know anything about TransAm?

I am a recent drivers school grad out of michigan heading off to TransAm orintation in Olathe, Kansas. I've looked and cant seem to find much about the company from its drivers, exept all the trucks are autoshift. Looking at there web site they seem to be a good company to start off on, but they all make them selfs sound good. Can anyone give me a heads up on them?

Talked to one of their drivers before and he said they took good care of their trucks. Pretty nice KW's and autoshift like you said. Starting pay is kinda low. 28cpm I think, but they uesd to give you decent miles. Not sure since the economy took a plunge, but they are a reefer unit and people do have to eat...

And don't even think about their lease purchase program. They claim l/p divers make an extra 10,000 a year more than a company driver, but I don't see how at .84 cpm (.88 top pay at 4 years, wow)!
Good Luck!

Trans Am is one of the few companies still making a profit these days.

I don't know... last couple times I mistakenly called them.. I couldn't help but laugh when they told me their "pay scale"..

I mean those boys & girls must be running BIG miles ...cause they sure don't pay Crap per mile!

You mentioned auto shift... ok.. maybe it's a starter company .. that might explain a lot.. yet.. I'd think their equipment would be more banged up if so.. yet it isn't. Check the truck stops-- are they always "eating out of the truck" because they can't afford a "set down" meal? I don't know..

Driver is pay has gone way WAY down last couple years.. both the rate and the especially the miles!

i didnt know that me eating in the truck out my cooler meant i could not afford to go in a truck stop and eat. i thought i was just saving my money??

No silly it's because you are poor. That's why I always eat a sit down meal and use $10 bills as napkins.

well, good luck to you, be ready to try and sleep all day run all night, pick up and delivery times in the wee hours of the night and early morning.you get a preplan just minutes before five a clock, when the dispatchers go home to enjoy there weekend with there families. if your single, that will work out best, cause all you have to worry about is yourself. again good luck, and see how long it takes before you wished you had spent your tuition money on another career?

Thanks to everyone that sent a reply. this is a new career for me. after spending almost 30 years in a bodyshop painting cars and breathing paint fumes. I am ready for some fresh air. As far as spending my money on this career, i went through a state program that paid for it so i am out nothing. I am single(divorced) and i live in an apartment that i hate. So maybe this is the right way for me to go. thanks again.
