and just how much would that gawdy monstrosity cost to operate per mile. think o/o's have it bad now, what would that thing get....3mpg 4 tops? LOL. not to mention how much will it weigh, thus not get to carry that much of a load.

I am thinking, if Matcat had the means to acquire that ride, he wouldn't worry about the cost of fuel :D and as far as pulling a load?????... that is a shaggin waggin :smokin:

It's supposed to get 8 to 9 mpg. I think its like 500k+, not sure on price exactly. No doubt you will take a hit on the weight though.

Anyway, it sounds like Swift is still trying to hire drivers.

Yeah Kevin seems to think I am against him or something because he is Swift, which is far from the truth! I am nice to swifties too. They gave me my start, so I was once a swiftie myself. I have nothing against swift drivers at all, just the company itself :)

Still no word on anything out of Fontana, same story about the operations being slow out here and no hiring for anyone.
They still know who I am over there and say they're going to review my app at the same time they get to all the other ones stacked up.

Swift hired me as an experienced driver in SLC 2 weeks ago with 18 others almost split down the middle with half recent grads and the other half experienced. However, on my first run to Cali I ended up stuck at the Fontana terminal with scores of other drivers waiting for freight. There just wasn't any. Two days later they deadheaded me up to Lathrop where they had plenty. I picked up a T-called load with 700+ miles left on it and headed out the next day.

They don't need any more drivers in Fontana because there's no freight for Swift in the area. If you really want back on with Swift you'll probably need to try a different terminal, at least until the economy improves.

that's the usual picture in fontana, mira loma, and ontario. the fontana terminal blows goats. i no longer park my tractor and trailer there. i prefer the mira loma yard. the yard, showers, and overall quality compared to fontana is much better. the only other option would be to spend money at the t/a west or east for crappy, lukewarm showers, overpriced "food", junk hustlers bugging you to buy their junk, hookers knocking on your door, and the ammonia stench lot at either one.

if you have an empty and want to drop it for a little bit to go somewhere- don't. once you do, some vulture will grab it, have it hooked to them, and you'll be freaking screwed. it doesn't matter if you're already dispatched under a load. any non-red tagged empty trailer is fair game down here.

When I drove for swift and wanted to drop my empty to bobtail some where, I would just put my kingpin lock on it :)

One day I did come back to my empty to find someone rather unsuccessfully trying to back up to it. I got out of my truck and went over and asked him what was wrong, he replied, "For some reason I cant back up under this trailer", I said, "Probably because of that kingpin lock on there" he looked under the trailer all baffled, then said, "Now why would someone put a kingpin lock on a trailer?" so I replied, "Because I didn't want to lose my empty that I am dispatched under while I went to the store", he got all huffy and sped off.
