It seems to depend on what part of Florida you live in. I live in the panhandle and when I was looking last summer to go back on the road most companies were not interested. Knight Transportation is recruiting pretty hard in the panhandle area.

If you are down in the Fort Lauderdale area, (Port Everglades) Florida Rock & Tank (Fuel Hauling) is also hiring we are in the process of opening a new terminal down there. I heard once word got out they had a line of close to 100 drivers waiting to apply....

Good Luck....

I'd go CWTL over Crete ,As in my reasearch I would have been making .03 cpm more at Crete ,but for that.03 cpm I would end up in sub par equipment ...I mean I did not know hand crank windows an tape decks were still offered in trucks without asking for them .

where is it that you live in florida? I started with Pritchett Trucking in Jan. of 2008 after moving to Tallahassee, and have been with them a little over a year now. I work out of their Leon county Transfer station hauling trash, it's not the most glamorous gig in the world, but you can make a living at it if you try. They have some pretty good bonus programs for those drivers that put forth the effort, i made 2,000 in safety bonoses last year, and they also have a revenue bonus that pays out weekly. I like the company, it might not be for everyone, but if you gave us an idea of where it is in florida that you live, we might be able to offer a little more info.

Assuming you're referring to Davis Express, they're in Starke. All of the above seem to be running well; see 'em all the time.

Hey Guys! Looking at possibly signing on with Davis Express out of Starke.. Anyone know anything good or bad about the company.. I know all the basic's just trying to see if anyone has had driving experience with them. Heard they are a pretty good family owned company. Talked to their recruiter last week and Yes they are currently hiring OTR southeast regional drivers. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks

In the Winter Haven/Lakeland area... I think there is "ABCO", and then there is that outfit that seems to run mostly the SE that is located on FL 544 just to the west of the Wally-world distribution center. Knight also has a terminal on 92 over by Lake Bonnet. And of course you have Bynum, Indian River, and Oakley in that area as well..... Lets not forget all the "CCC" companies that are HQ'd in Auburndale....

Starke! I had a braincramp. I see their white reefers all of the time and have been by their yard a bunch. Just couldnt think of the place. The equipment looks good, though.

I just see their equipment in truckstops and it looks pretty new and well maintained. I'll talk to some of the drivers for you and let you know next week what they say.

On Davis, if I remember correctly they only run 3 states or so (FL, GA, SC I think). Equipment looks sharp. Heard a couple of their drivers chatting on the CB for an hour or so, and seemed pretty happy.

Also, saw Ruan had an ad in the Lake City classifieds last week (they have a terminal there). Advertising home every day if you're looking for something like that. They have a decent website you can check out.

Davis

Hey Jon P and Rumrunner thanks for the Info on Davis.. Hey Jon P thanks alot for trying to get some information from drivers for me. I appreciate that. Yea from what I have heard the Davis drivers are home every other weekend and do mostly run NC, SC, GA, FL. There equipment does look pretty nice.. I hear they are getting Kenworth T660's as well as a few Pete's in there. Right now I am sitting and waiting to hear back from them.. I ran into alittle glich with my experience. Davis is looking for 2 years OTR and I have close to 2.5 years regional/OTR. My former employer reported my experience as local due to the fact that most of the drivers were home every night. However, to be considered local you have to remain 100 miles or within that techniquelly. I was running about a 400-500 mile radius of Indy with trips out to KC and the East Coast occasionally. So I definitely wasn't local and when someone sees local they think your driving in the city. So I am trying to get this issue resolved. My recruiter from Davis was really nice and the guy he forwarded my stuff onto to be processed is suppose to get back to me with a final answer on all this if he can get it resolved. Either way I have to get back with my former employer and resolve this issue immediately. I have a few other offers out there so we shall see.. Thanks alot guys and I will keep yall posted as to what happens. Drive safe out on them big roads!!!
