I wimped out!  I'm in a corporate apartment in Lafayette LA. Tropical Storm winds here right now, rain bands passing every half hour or so. Still powered up.

I expect to have one hell of a mess when I get to the house tomorrow afternoon. They are expecting 4 to 8 foot of water in my neighborhood. Streets were beginning to flood when I left at 10AM.

Truck is parked at the terminal lot in Beaumont, north of I-10...so it should ride out the storm ok.

If the truck is in Beaumont, I would be worried. That ain't far enough inland, I wouldn't think.

Good luck to ya, dude.
Act churlish, when the wind blows...

So far the information I have is that the truck raired ok. Story is different for my home. One of the levies failed, and water is pouring into downtown Orange. Gonna run over in a couple hours to see what can be seen. Get some pictures IF possable.

I feel sorry for you people down south of us here in West Texas, but we here in Lubbock went through our own just 2 days ago.. SUCKED.. I live out in the Cotton fields and when those get enough to soak up, they over flow the streets.. Just need to get the boat out!!

But now It is HOT, and Humid, feels like I live in Dallas or Huston right now.. Cant breath, and again I am sick.. SUCKS.. My defense system is shot..

Best of luck to Y'all down south and don't send it our way!

Ike is headed for Texarkana and Dallas..then on to Little Rock & Saint Louis!!

Local news is reporting that downtown Orange TX has 9.3 feet of water from Sabine Lake storm surge.

No electricity probably for 3 to 6 weeks.

flood 09-13-2008 08:30 PM

man i'm sorry to hear that. hope things will not be to bad when you get home.

flood 09-13-2008 08:36 PM

I'm not holding out to much hope right now for my furniture. Hopefully my insurance will cover me.

I'll cross my fingers for ya brother.........

I'm +/- 150 miles NW Galveston, and about 40 miles West of Palestine, Tx. as the crow flies. Palestine is where Ike began to pivot toward it's NW trajectory.

We have faired far better that we anticipated. Ike started moving in +/- 7:30 a.m. We evacuated most of our drilling rigs Yesterday, and are getting them back up and running now.

High winds, gusts up to +/- 100 mph, but flooding has not been a problem.

We're through the worst of it, mostly unscathed.

I talked to my wife and daughter this morning; The San Antonio and surrounding area was getting some winds, but very little rain.

Help is on it's way to Houston as we speak. The Rev. Jesse Jackson has sent four busloads of specially trained, volunteer Looting Co-ordinaters to help.

Orangetxguy 09-13-2008 10:27 PM

WoooooHoooo! Just talked with my brother! He stopped by the house...no wind damage, and the water is only half way up the yard, and holding steady!!!

Local police recruited him to drive his truck around the neighborhoods in that section, helping get out those people who stayed and were trapped by the deepest water! Good thing he had a flatbed!

flood 09-13-2008 11:45 PM

that is good news

Thanks Keith! It is still sad to look at pix of water in all the wrong places..... especially salt water. Sabine Lake is salt and fresh mixed water. Saw one clip of an eel swimming on 16th street....that just ain't right!

On the plus side...lot's of nasty old rundown buildings will get pulled down now.

Glad to hear that. As soon as I get this load off of my flatbed I'm going to see what I can do to get supplies into that area.

Today's flooding makes Walmart look smart for hauling in fill dirt and raising their lot when they built the new store 10 years ago.
