Cardinal logistics
Has anybody here ever worked for this company. They run local and dedicated accounts around major cities. I have a cousin who is looking for a good local job.
I told him I would ask around about this company and get back to him. Any info you provide would be good. |
Which city, which account? I have a friend that is starting with them on Aug. 9(They took over a dedicated account from the company that we use to work for). So far he is NOT impressed but will find out soon. I'll see if he will post his experiences here for you or answer any questions.

He is in Memphis,tn. I am not sure which accounts they have in that area, i was just wondering how it is to work for them. any info u provide would be great.

I work for Cardinal Logistics part time. I call it my OTR local job. I take an MT up into Central California and pick up produce for Walmart. Bring the full trailer back to Inland Cold Storage in Riverside, drop it in the yard, and go home. Most of the time I do this all in one shift. But alot of the time I end up with the runs up to Dinuba or Tulare or Fresno with 2-3 stops and there isnt a chance of doing it all in 14 hours so I spend the night in the truck. I try to make it back to Wheeler Ridge and then head over the Grapevine in the morning.
They pay cpm and every time the trailer door opens. Each account pays differently depending upon the contract. We have 4 years left on our Wally World contract and I doubt it will be renewed. The bigger boys are eating up the smaller accounts now. I had another part time gig with a friends company hauling juice around L.A. but Werner came in and took it over and I lost that job because of it. Swift used to be the main outbound company at Inland but now Schneider has taken over. Im not finding too many local jobs in the Los Angeles area right now either. |
I was leased to Cardinal for a little while here in NY. Lot of different accounts. Some are good and some are bad. A very big turnover rate in my area. The guys would starve in the winter. Poor guys would only be making McDonalds wages.
The account I had was a local millwork run. It was the easiest run I ever had in 21 years of driving. Half days, 5 days a week bumping docks with $2400 settlements on 500 miles. Then things slowed down and fuel got crazy. I milked it for as long as I could. Got my own Authority and started doing sidework because my days were so short. Was happy and doing good till they started to take money away. I said goodbye and have been completely independent. I am making more money now and I am enjoying myself and happy I left. I would find drivers in your area and ask them how they like it. Keep in mind if they recruit you they get a $1000 bucks. So you sometimes won't get an honest answer. I did not lease a truck from them, and I would hope you will not. Most of their trucks have been leased multiple times. If you do decide to work as a contractor for them, buy the cheapest truck you can find. Some accounts pay for every mile driven with hub miles, plus stop pay. Some have a minimum rate you will receive for the week if you do not complete enough work to make any money. But they will take that away not to long after you have been working there. They are a big company that will try to pay you the least amount possible. Some accounts will be going to company drivers because they can't hold on to lease operators. They go broke and quit. Some will make it, but not that many. Being a company driver for them would be best. |
My old Cardinal Logistics dedicated driver at Home Depot made over $100,000. But that is the past and is not likely to reoccur since Home Depot now uses JB Hunt.

Leasing out here is only with your own truck, Cardinal has none here to lease to you. I think we have 3 O/Os and they came from another account when it got closed out.

Home Depot still uses Cardinal on the Island. JB Does the 5 boroughs. They still use Cardinal all over. They also use JB all over. The HD guys on the Island are starving. They did real well about 4-5 years ago. It has gotten progressively worse. The drivers drop like flies every two weeks. They just keep replacing them. They were thinking of using company guys but it would cost them too much money. The company guys actually make more money then a contractor would these days.
The guys only clear about half of that, if that, after expenses and fuel. That's without any benifits. $100,000 is really not much at all when all your costs come out. |

I thought cardinal was all company drivers, I didnt know they had lease drivers. |
MY BUDDY WORKED FOR CARDINAL OUT OF DAYTON NJ EXIT 8A NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE. HE RAN CABINETS TO HOME DEPOTS MOSTLY TO CONNETICUT. STARTED AT LIKE 10AM GOT DONE LATE BY THE TIME HE TRIED GETTING BACK INTO JERSEY. TRUCKS GO LIKE 64 MPH AND THERE PAY STRUCTURE IS NOT HOURLY. HE GOT FIRED FOR CALLING OFF 2 DAYS IN A ROW AFTER HE WORKED THERE FOR BOUT A YEAR
