They have a truckload and LTL operation. So if you're a TL driver, you get first dibs on an open LTL boatspace since they hire from within.

Downside is that truckload mileage can be slim pickens...word on the street is that fleetwide average is around 2,200 mpw. One common complaint seems to be sitting around waiting on loads. Upside is that they're pretty good about getting you home every weekend. You might be asked to run an LTL load for TL wages...one of those "part of the job" things. Over on the LTL side, the going-rate for linehaul is nothing to write home about...only like .48 cpm or something. You can make .55-.57 at one of the union LTL's or non-union like FedEx Freight or Conway. They have two classifications: shuttle and combo, I think combo you might work the city or the dock. P&D tops out at around $20.00/hr I think but no overtime. You have to wear red polo-shirt uniforms in both divisions which you get to foot the bill for through payroll deductions.

A good gameplan might be to start in truckload, bid on an LTL run, and then get your experience and move on to a better LTL. Your experience at Averitt will help get your foot in the door of a top-line outfit.

No beards with Averitt, if you like the hair on your chinny-chin-chin they'll make you shave it off.

They only run their LTL division in the SE part of the US. I've talked to a couple of Averitt that said that they don't have a chance at LTL because they don't live in the South.

talk about no beards, also heard no tattoos or body pierceing, that will do away with most of the drivers I've seen
