Anyone work for or know anything about this company ? Good or bad ??

Estes is a non-union LTL carrier. Local P&D pays by the hour, no OT after 40 hrs. Linehaul pays by the mile. Not sure of the rates. They have some of the ugliest trucks out there on the road.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that a violation of Federal, or at least State labor laws?

Nope. If I remember correctly truck drivers are classified as unskilled labor and therefor some laws do not apply to them ie ot after 40 hours. Some of the older members might want to correct/clairify my statement.

Because they are an interstate trucking company, they are exempt from the overtime provision of the FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act) just like the OTR coolie carriers.

So even tho an LTL driver is considered local and usually doesn't cross state lines, the freight he's hauling did and so the interstate laws apply because he's technically engaged in interstate commerce. However in the state of Washington, local operations must pay overtime after 8/40 hours. California has some complex rules regarding trucking OT, but most truckers end up being exempt.

All of the union LTL's pay overtime after 8/40 because the union gets those guys a good deal. Only some of the non-union LTL's do...the ones afraid of becoming a union LTL.
