Need current info. on Barr-Nun
May try Barr-Nun after being off road for 7 months. Will have to do their 3-5 day refresher course, which is fine by me. I'm real close to their new Manchester, PA. Terminal thats opening in January.Going to do the North East Regional to get the expierience, if they hire me. Their website says $975.00 per week (5 days) home on week ends. Any comments from any one with expierience at this company or suggestions would be appreciated. How many miles per week will they run you for the $975.00 per week, and is this a solid company you could stay with for the duration. Also i hear they have good fuel routing to pick from, does anyone know if they give you a suggested route to follow when you get your load through the qualcom like Crete does. Was approved to come back on board with Crete but all they have is National right know and I can't do that with family situation at this time. Crete is really where I would like to be though. I'll stop crying know and end this post! Thanks.

I have no experience driving with Barr-Nunn but here's what I do know:
If you have less than 1 year exp (you didn't give that detail in your post) AND have a break in employment within 1 year they won't hire you UNTIL you have more than 1 year exp. If you're over 1 year then you should be set. I've only talked to a few BN drivers and have heard nothing negative. My brother owns a business where he gets regular deliveries from a BN driver and he's talked to that guy and HE says he absolutly loves BN. So, BN was one of my top picks.. #2 actually but because of my break in employment I'm going with CFI. I think you'd be fine there from what I hear. I know this isn't exactly what you were looking for but I hope it at least helps a little. :) Take care and GL, Dok |
Thanks Doctari. I have 17 months otr experience. I do believe also Barr-Nun is a good co. I really like that new term. is right up street. I could walk there if i had to get back to truck. May do their otr if i can get home every other weekend and get atleast 2500 miles per week. I have heard a difference on opinion on miles with this co. some drivers say they get miles and others are saying they don't when i did a search. thanks for your info.

I like the salary idea. A guy down the road from me has been parking his Barr Nunn truck in his yard every Friday since I moved here 1992 :shock: That's a lifetime in trucking.

I am running southeast for them right now but i spent a year on OTR with them and I went home every other friday for the whole weekend leaving out on monday and averaged over 2500 a week for that year. The one thing they are really good about is respecting your hometime requests, they have sent me home anytime i needed for any amount of time i needed no questions asked every time. If i was you and lived near that new terminal, i would hop on that Northeast regional salary deal, thats the best thing they have going, you arent even going to run alot of miles on many weeks and you still get that pay. Its a real good deal and the guys on that run really like it, If i lived up there i would be on that assignment as quick as i could get on it. |
Thanks Jaggerbomber for the info. I do believe I will apply there shortly. I want to go to a truck co. that I can stay with for a while and that i can have some where close to home to park truck. The recruiter I talked to breifly a couple weeks ago said they should be able to get me approved as long as I have had steady employment, which I always have, and a good driving record.They seem to me to be an ideal match as long as I know they will not play games with milage and hometime once i get there.

This always cracks me up. I would tell the recruiter if someone had steady employment they wouldn't be driving a truck. |
I dont know bigmon, this is just what they say. I guess it is just the transportation industy thing. It dont bother me none I just follow the rules and do what is required. I like driving a Truck. It beats walking around a construction site and playing in the dirt, and watching all the ### k#####s jockey for position when they know layoffs are coming soon. "AH, the freedom of waking up in the morning already being at work, sipping your coffee as you head on down the big road listening to the morning news and getting paid for it." what more could a person ask for in a job.......

I have been driving for Barr-Nunn for 3 months now. I am OTR. In those 3 months (13 weeks), I have driven 25278 paid miles or 1944 miles per week.
From Dec. 31 to Jan 23, I have had 4 restarts. Dec. 31-Jan. 2 first restart - no loads. Jan. 5-6 second restart - unpaid layover on trip Jan. 11-13 third restart - hometime Jan. 19-21 fourth restart - unpaid layover on trip and looking at the possibility of another restart this coming weekend if no loads again. Barr-Nunn only pays layover between trips. If you sit for a day or two while on a trip (arriving early), there is no layover pay paid. Also, in figuring layover pay. you start with your estimated time of availability (after load is deliver and when available to pick up next load) and you subtract that from the pickup time on your next load. Then you divide the deadhead miles by 47 mph and subtract those hours from your time. If it is more than 24,48, 72, etc hours, then you will get paid layover. I have never had a problem getting my layover pay. However, I will never again buy parts for their trucks. I had to buy 2 headlights within 10 days time. It took me a month and a couple of phone calls to get it paid. From now on, I park the truck and have them send road service to me (yes, even for a headlight). I have not had problems getting home when I tell them, but have talked to guys that have. I had to split a load with a guy who told me that he was on his hometime and they keep calling him to come off his hometime until he finally gave up and left home to split my load. I would have unplugged the phones. Also, if you get the sign-on bonus, it is paid $500 on first paycheck, 2nd $500 on paycheck when you hit 60,000 miles, and final payment on the paycheck when you hit 120,000 miles. They tell you that you are expected to drive 10,000-12000 miles a month, but my 25278 miles in 3 months tells you otherwise. It should take me about 7-8 months. If you leave before your 6 months(or 60,000 miles - I am not sure) you have to pay back the sign-on bonus (and orientation costs also I have heard, but am not sure about). Your truck is governed at 66 mph. and while they will not give you a load of more than 693 (66mph X 11 hours) for 1 day without splitting it, expect them to give you loads where you have to fudge your logbook in order for it to "look" legal. With your time-off requests. They do not answer back to them. Everyone else I have worked for sends you a message saying it was approved. Barr-nunn takes the opposite approach. They will send you a message saying if it is not possible. From what I hear, they do this so that when you tell them that a load is taking you away from your house instead of to your house, they can say that they never received your request. This has the effect of having you sitting on pins and needles until you actually pull into your driveway. Would I recommend them? No. Will I leave them before my 6 months? Only if they start messing with me. Will I stay with them long term? No. |
