I like it. Less of a hassle, No BS with shipping and unloading. I pull up at the sand plant and they fill her up around 52,000 lb and down the road I go. When I unload it's hook the hose up to the truck and silo, turn on the blower. Takes about 1 to 1 1/2 to unload. If I have to wait to unload, I get wait time after the 1st hour.
Try to get a dedicated run. I like my dedicated run because: I'm dealing with the same people every day and the pay is not up one week and down the next. I gross $805 for 5 days and $1050 if I run 5 days and a Saturday.(Not including waiting time)That can add around $100 to my gross. Nice thing is I'm home every night.
Now the down side it's not a 8 to 5 job. But thats trucking LOL

Hey Jokerpop, thanks for the info, this co i'm looking at seems ok, 44cpm, good vac package, only thing is otr, but 95 is thier main corridor which means i may get home more often, i'll let you know, will be leaving 1/14

Doktari 01-05-2008 02:40 PM

JW, mind sharing the co name? I'd like to check out their details. Maybe a webpage link? Thanks,

Hey Dok, let me know what you think about this co.,

MoneyCat 01-05-2008 03:30 PM

I just started with superior carriers this week. They told me since I live in Richmond (no company terminal here) I'll be doing dry bulk stuff here locally. Also, the baltimore terminal has 12hrs shifts for dry bulk monday-friday schedule. I believe their pay is $16.18/hour

Doktari 01-05-2008 03:39 PM

Well JW, there's not a lot of info on their website. Thanks for sharing it though. I was hoping to see where they hired out of but my guess is it's pretty close to where they're headquartered. .44/mile is good though, 3 weeks vacation for all OTR drivers out of the gate is strong too. Not a lot of other info though. From what I see it looks good though. Just wish I could see more of their operating areas/lanes. I tried to call but no answer. They gave an after hours dispatch # but didnt' want to bother those folks.

Thanks again though.

I used to live in Southern Pines, NC. What a great town that was. My wife was in the Air Force stationed out of Pope. Would love to go back there (60 miles from Polkton) but the problem with NC (at least when we lived there) was the economy really sucked. And if you were in the textile industry in NC, you were out of a job.

jw6831 01-05-2008 03:50 PM

Hey thanks again dok, for your input, very small co., but when i start will keep you up to date, try calling mon-fri, ask for donnie driver manager, sounds like real nice down to earth guy, far as running areas, was told 60-80 %, of freight running I-95 corridor

Doktari 01-05-2008 03:54 PM

Great JW, do that please. Would love to hear of your adventures there. How long have you been driving?

I wouldn't mind that deal, long as I could get home every weekend, most otr jobs your working 14hrs anyway, and out for 2wks. I'm 3-1/2 hrs away from terminal so I don't think I'll be seeing local runs.

anyone know of drybulk companies that hire local, regional, or otr drivers out of tucumcari nm? this is a hard area to live at because very little freight ends up here and companies are saying that home time is hard to guaratee

Mackman 01-06-2008 04:10 AM

I did dry bulk could not make no money at it. I drove for Venezia Transport. I didnt like the 14 hr days at all. Takes to long to get unloaded. 1 /12 to 2 hr.

jw6831 01-06-2008 04:22 AM

Hey Mack, was that a local gig, home every night, or otr. Venezia aren't they out of South Jersey

Yea right off of rt 322. It was local. It wasnt a bad job i like pullin a dry bulk tanker. It was just the low pay and long hrs. that got to me. If i could find a good dry bulk job that paid by the hr. i would take it.

jw6831 01-06-2008 04:37 AM

Appreciate the comeback, hey I use to live in Cape May, but moved to NC last year, to be close to my parents. I hauled Seafood out of CM, to MA, RI,. man do I miss that money. Well I'm going to try this small bulk co. down by Charlotte, NC, otr so we'll see what happens

One more thing the 1st , 2 weeks they had me running all over and the money was not so good. They where testing me. The way I see it is they are not going to put you on the good runs right out the gate. so hang in there and good Luck.

n2kraln 01-07-2008 01:27 AM

Ok i have a ? just not trying to sound retarded but anyway. Do you have to have tanker endorsement for the dry bulk pneumatics . I'm guessing so but wanted to be sure.

wesland 01-07-2008 05:16 AM

here is cts info www.ctsco.com 1-877-325-4996 ext 229 her name is megan really nice lady , as far as the endorsement i have heard yea and no but i will ask cts and see what they say

you do NOT need tanker endorsement for pneumatic tankers. only for liquid tankers.

jw6831 01-07-2008 01:35 PM

I looked at website, ctsco didn't seem to have info on benifits or pay scale, only application download, maybe you have another site to look at.
